SmoothJazz.com Review,
By Sandy Shore (Monterey, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Diamonds (MP3 Download)
Shiny, sexy and captivating... Jonathan Fritzén's new release DIAMONDS is all that and more! The Swedish writer, producer and keyboardist is already on his third solo release since 2008 and he's still in his twenties! Jonathan describes DIAMONDS as his most personal project yet... he has composed each track himself and produced the entire release. Like his last album VIP, JF recruited some shining saxophone stars for this one including saxophonists Darren Rahn, Jessy J and Koh Mr. Saxman. In addition, you'll find a very solid support team with Mel Brown on bass, Lalia Adele on vocals and Alex Crown on guitar. DIAMONDS feels good from the moment you hit play... it's Smooth Jazz with notes of soul, chill and R&B featuring delectable melodies and sweet keyboard work similar to Bob James and Brian Culbertson. The first single, "Dance With Me" is sure to sashay its way up the charts. Ice yourself with DIAMONDS and enjoy the smooth bling!

Smooth jazz album of the year 2010,
By Phil Green (UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Diamonds (Audio CD)
Jonthan Fritzen really is a major talent who deserves to be a big player on the smooth jazz scene.
Just 12 months have passed since Jonathan's last album and the Swedish pianist is back with yet another superb offering which follows very much in the path of its predecessor, "VIP", with mainly instrumental tracks and a couple with dreamy background vocals. "Feelin' The Groove" opens the account and reminds me of Shakatak in their heyday. The next track, "This Way, That Way" stands out for me as it features my two favourite lead instruments in smooth jazz, the piano and the saxophone and this track would sit very comfortably on a Dave Koz album or even a Rippingtons album. The majority of tracks are up tempo, only easing slightly with "Fly Away" before slowing down even more with "You'll Be Mine" and "Melting." Go to Jonathan's own website to hear extended samples of every track and then purchase the album along with his previous offerings if you do not already have them. You will not be disappointed and this is surely the smooth jazz album of the year 2010. Any artist or group who hits on a successful formula sticks with it so do not be put off by the unjustified negative review below by Michael Mayfield. As far as I am concerned you can never have too much of a good thing.

Jonathan Fritzén has a feeling for the piano that is fantastic, he really knows how to bring a feeling into you with soft tones. His solos and licks makes him one among the best. I must also give Alex Crown who plays the guitar a star, he shows a wonderful feeling that complements Jonathans piano very well. The mixing of the record is also very good, and is a great part of the listening experience. A gratulation to the team with Jonathan Fritén at the point for a great CD. My favorite is "Melting".
