Diamonds in the Rough,
By C Smith (Northern California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Diamonds in the Rough : An Infancy to College Reference - Rehabilitation Guide for the ADD / Learning Disabled (Spiral-bound)
Diamond in the Rough is a must have book for any parent who wants to help their child succeed with a learning disability. This book helped me understand the nature of my child's learning disability. It gave information I needed to make sure my daughter's school provided the support she needed. It gave excellent resources such as support groups, and other valuable information. More important, Diamonds in the Rough gave information about what my child could do for herself. These suggestions helped improve my daughter's self esteem, and she learned to enjoy school. My daughter is now in college and a lot of the credit goes to this book. There are a lot of books on the market about learning disabilities, but Diamonds in the Rough is second to none. It is a must have ! ! 5+ stars

When our youngest daughter was diagnosed with a learning disability in the sixth grade my sister gave me the book "Diamonds in the Rough". It turned out over the years to be a lifesaver, not only for me but also for many of my friends. We had no idea where to find out children tutoring and support services. Though most of the people recommended in this book were outside my home town, they helped me located important resources in the East Bay Area. These resources provided tutoring and learning techniques that have helped my daughter through junior and senior high school to be successful. We have recently used the book once again to find an Educational Consultant to help locate the best college for a student with learning disabilities. I have found many people, including educators, who do not understand learning disabilities, but "Diamonds in the Rough" is truly a helpful guide to locate people who are most knowledgeable in this area.

Although I am not employed as an educational professional, I thought this was a very well written book. It was very well organized and if I had the need for these specialized educational resources, especially the internet ones, I would refer to this book right away. I hope that other parents and children with disabilities would read this book and maybe check out the sites involved if they needed help in this area.Great job Peg Dias! RJ Esq

A user friendly book on Special Education,

I highly recommend "Diamonds in the Rough" by Peggy Dias. This is one of the most "user friendly" books about Special Education on the market today. This book demystifies and clarifies the terms of special education. It also provides numerous resources, services and support groups that are valuabe for any parent, educator, administrator, health professional and advocate. As someone who was in Special education as a youngster, teaches Special Education at a High school and acts as an advocate for a relative with disabilities. I feel this is a fantastic book to get started in learning about all of the facets of learning disabilities.
