4.0 out of 5 stars Great song and instrumental.
The lead off single from Late Registration, "Diamonds from Sierra Leone" is a very nice track. I love the vocal sampling and his rhymes are great, too. (If you want to hear a version that is more about Sierra Leone, and less about other stuff, dowload the remix with Jay Z.) By no means is this his best material, but it's still a really nice track from Kanye...

3.0 out of 5 stars "Diamonds" - Kanye West
The production on this track is somewhat overambitious -- it's not bad, but Kanye could've done without the Harpsichord. Also, the little "foreva, eva, eva, eva" thing he does (reminiscent of OutKast's "Ms. Jackson") is a little unnecessary. On the plus side, Kanye's definitely stepped up his game on the mic -- his lyrics and flow sound more refined compared to his work...

But what I really bought it for was the instrumental. (Which includes the vocal sample, if you were wondering. I love it.) When you listen to it, there are a lot of small things that you don't notice when he's rapping. It's a great instrumental.

This is worth the purchase, although I would find it somewhere for a lower price because it is only two tracks. (I found it for $4.99 at my local Tower Records. Much better than paying $10 plus shipping and handling for 2 songs.)

Overall, a bit overdone, but still a decent track.

kanye west has always got my attention by his production... "diamonds from sierra leone" is no different. this is one of his best productions. i dont know an producers that can sample a james bond theme and get away with it.

the original version is hot 2 def. this song sounds great in my car. the singer on the chorus is sooo haunting that you get drawn into the song...

the remix is just excellent... jay-z flow is just awesome....

byt this single, better yet buy the album... HOTTTTTT

4.0 out of 5 stars Diamonds must be stopped., August 11, 2005
This review is from: Diamonds from Sierra Leone Pt.1 (Audio CD)
I've been giving speeches and talking about the slave trade on diamonds in Sierra Leone for years. I was really happy to hear about this song. I wish it talked more about the tragedy in Sierra Leone, and less about Vegas or Alicia Keys. But I still really appreciate that he put this out there and let the world at least start to realize what's going on in Africa. Stop supporting genocide, stop buying diamonds!

3.0 out of 5 stars pretty good,but Kayne is a bit heavy-handed at times, July 31, 2005
This review is from: Diamonds from Sierra Leone Pt.1 (Audio CD)
I dig the James Bond theme Sample.it fits what Kayne West was trying to get at.Musically he has a bit too much going on.His Rap Flow is better here though at times he is still too preachy.right now He is still beter behind someone else as to being a Artist thus far.this song has a good message, but Kayne is still a bit too heavy handed.

4.0 out of 5 stars This song is incredible, August 1, 2005

I luv Kanye to death man. Y'know he'll always be the top and baddest producer out there in the music biz. Can't wait till his album drops out. Ok back to the song "Diamonds", as I was listening to it, I feel a lil change, new reference, nu look, nu style, 'urything. Dontcha believe that? It features a sample of the theme song from the James Bond movie "Diamonds are Forever" ('cuz to me I luv me sum James Bond, that's my hero.) The rmx. he did w/ Jay-Z was off da chain, namean? It begins where he talks about the jewelry, where Jacob the Jeweler gets it, about Kon being sick about awards and ppl think or hate 'bout him, all of the above. Ok that's enuff. Kanye 2 me, is truly an outstanding follower, a more kinda street or music prophet like Marvin Gaye and Nas, 2 me I could compare him as the post-sides of Quincy Jones, Miles Davis, Jay-Z, P. Diddy or Puffy IMO, MC Hammer, 2Pac, Eminem, Marvin Gaye, Jermaine Dupri, Mase, etc. Oh, need I say more?

Hear Missy's song w/ my girl Ciara. It's titled "Outta Control" or "Lose Control". The song is hot too and make me think I'ma be a music producer sumday.
