REMIX-A-LICIOUS!!,
By
This review is from: Diana Extended: Remixes (Audio CD)
Every major artist with danceable tunes deserves a remix treatment as good as this. Very tasty! Mostly, you're getting all the major parts of each song re-mixed to [near]perfection by the re-mix maestros. "Love Hangover," "The Boss," and "Someday We'll Be Together" are the best, and "Upside Down" and "I'm Coming Out" are just fine, too. I never cared that much for "Chain Reaction" or the others. But, this set is definitely worth it for the excellent, excellent job done on the above-cited. A solid, tasty effort. Get up and DANCE!

Sorry, kids, but if you didn't like this CD (I didn't when I first bought it when it came out), listen to it again. We never heard the intro to THE BOSS that is on this CD; it's all Diana -- purring, singing her heart out, all vocal beginning -- exquisite! The vocal intro to LOVE HANGOVER is also "new" -- vamping, playful Diana -- it's brilliant! The re-mix of CHAIN REACTION is perhaps my favorite of them all (only because I always found the song banal; this re-mix is hip-hop fun -- put it on constant re-play and listen to this song for about a half an hour -- it definitely had to be made that way ...)

Dance Anthems For Lady Ross!,
This review is from: Diana Extended: Remixes (Audio CD)
This is Diana Ross' first dance-remixed LP. Diana Extended-The Remixes is, in it's own right as a dance LP, a very good collection. The tracks are jumping and all have that little something that makes you want to get up and shake something! There is even a remix of Diana Ross and The Supremes' 1969 #1 single, "Someday We'll Be Together", as well as two remixed selections from Diana's 1980 platinum album, "diana", (I'm Coming Out and Upside Down). "The Boss" (1979) is also includes as well as a sultry and mostly-rerecorded by Diana version of "Love Hangover" (1976, #1). I'd have to say that the only element that pulls this collection down are the selection of only seven songs (because, If you're going to pay top dollar for a CD, it should have more than only seven songs), otherwise, Diana Extended-The Remixes definately worth purchasing. Also, the CD serves great as runway music as well.

SOULFUL DANCE,

A great collection of tracks that are remixed perfectly into pumping dance tunes. This is a very good album in its own right and Ross' vocals sound crystal clear throughout. The best remix is easily her 1969 swan song with The Supremes, SOME DAY WE'LL BE TOGETHER which has a compelling, stomping dance beat throughout. Closley following that is another great night club type remix of her classic 1980 no.1 hit, UPSIDE DOWN. The remixes are all fresh and modernised and even though they don't out shine the origanals its still an album worth having as this is great, grooving, sultry dance music that gives all the tracks selected much justice and if anything proves that Diana Ross' wonderful recordings are timeless. Lets hope a second collection is released. An interesting idea would be a dance remix of AIN'T NO MOUNTAIN HIGH ENOUGH. Anythings possible these days! Very much recommended!!!

I want more of this!,

"Diana Extended" was not only a brilliant name for her remix collection, in that she self-referenced her own famous hair extensions, but the remixes were QUALITY, by some of the best in the business (most prominently Frankie Knuckles and David Morales). The one problem is, I want more of what this disc offers! On my personal wish list for updated remixes would be: "Swept Away", "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", "My Old Piano", "Reach Out I'll Be There", and "Muscles". For those who love this disc, there are additional remixes of D's classics to be found. Look for the '93 European Cd single for "Upside Down". It's a totally different and slammin' remix. Also, the PWL '88/'89 remixes of "Love Hangover", and the 1990 Phil Chill mixes of "I'm Still Waiting." These are all killer. Also, the UK Cd single for "Why Do Fools Fall in Love" contains the Joey Negro remixes for "Love Hangover" and "I'm Coming Out". And lastly, for the best mixes of her best 90s dance song, you MUST get the T-Empo and BT remixes of "Take Me Higher"! These are on English vinyl and RARE, but well worth the price.

La Diva Safely Hits the Dance Floor for Fans,

Though it was hard to imagine what yet another collection of Ross' endurable uptempo hits remixed would provide new for fans, this set flows nicely with nuances to freshen up the well worn grooves on these classics. From Junior Vasquez to Frankie Knuckles, the best of remixers offers easily accessible takes on "The Boss" with a windpercussive instrument adding just the right color against a more soulful, rather than dance lead. "Upside Down" makes a long 8-9 minute journey before it cleverly demands "up, up", "up up", "up up" DOWN" capturing the children's playground soundtrack that Ross originally tasked the Chic guys to create for her. Less appealing is "Chain Reaction" and "I'm Coming Out" (though a great radio edit exist if you can find it that also pays homage to Ross' original desired first listenings of the legendary Chic mixes). The gem of the set, especially in its on reinterpretations available on CD single, "Someday We'll Be Together" totally transforms the possiblity of what this set may have originally intended.
The artwork is pleasant and was used to promote her European summer dates in 1993. She included a huge chunk of the mix for "Upside Down" in her 30th Anniversary global tour set that ran from 1993-94.

Five whole friggin stars for the Upside Down dance extended mix! That's the only reason to get this particular album. The rest of it is pure playtime.

Sad treatment of some great songs,
By
This review is from: Diana Extended: Remixes (Audio CD)
I have to say that all the song on this collection are first rate...that is they were the first time out. I found all of the selections were laden down with heavy base in addition to a recomposition of the entire song structure. Where this usually works fine when producers are mindful of the artistic integrity from which the song was born, the sprit and/or flavor in which these songs were recreated here is completely lost. The one song I was particularly sadden by was "Someday We'll be Together". This song has always had a wonderful gospel feel to it that served The Supremes, and their fans, well as their swan song. However here it is reduced to horrible mix of misdirected instrumentation and a tempo that has to be an insult to the songs composures Beavers/Bristol/Fuqua.

Disappointing remixes!,

These remixes completely ruin the songs on this CD. I wish I could send this back. Instead of truly extending the song with clever and energetic remixes, this collection is nothing but a kinda of trip-hop/house beat mix on each of the songs. It reminds me of the kind of late night background mixes they play at a club-when everyone is not really dancing anymore but hanging around the bar drinking and "grooving" to the house beat. This album should be called Diana-Extended HOUSE mixes. Very boring CD. She should have had Gigi d'Agostino or Erasure remix it for her!

Diana Exhausted....is more like it.,

This is one of, if not the worse remix album I have ever heard. The tracks are lame and what's so bad is that the disc was remixed by well known Dj's like David Morales and Steve Silk Hurley..I have heard much much better from them. The best remix on this cd would have to be "Love Hangover" but even that gets boring after the first 4 minutes. You'd be better off spinning a old Dinan Ross record backwards for a good remix. Avoid this one by all means.
