4.0 out of 5 stars Well I like it.
I bought this to use with my Nikon D40. I have to say I wasn't expecting a lot. It's a plastic lens, and some of the joy of plastic lenses comes from things like light leaks on cheap cameras.

But I'm really enjoying it! I have to manually meter, and things aren't sharp, but the metering's simple on a DSLR (just keep adjusting the shutter speed and taking...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not great for use with DSLR
I ordered this along with the adapter for the Canon EOS mount for my wife's Canon 20D. I am by no means the photographer in the family, but I thought she would enjoy playing with this. While it attached and was able to take pictures, it didn't really give the wide angle that I know my wife enjoys. I'm sure it works great for the Diana camera, and I'm sure there are...

4.0 out of 5 stars Well I like it., February 27, 2010

I bought this to use with my Nikon D40. I have to say I wasn't expecting a lot. It's a plastic lens, and some of the joy of plastic lenses comes from things like light leaks on cheap cameras.

But I'm really enjoying it! I have to manually meter, and things aren't sharp, but the metering's simple on a DSLR (just keep adjusting the shutter speed and taking photos until the histogram is correct), and the lack of sharpness is exactly what makes this lens dreamy. Obviously, shooting with a digital camera, I don't have to worry about the cost of developing film, like the previous reviewer.

I was actually looking forward to playing with these photos in Photoshop, but I was surprised to discover they needed minimal post processing.

One nice thing about the lens is that it is super light. Some might complain about that, but I love that I barely feel my camera around my neck with this lens. It means I'll keep my camera with me even more than usual and get more photos.

Amazon's photo policies make me uncomfortable. If you are interested in seeing sample photos with this lens, I have a set on flickr: [...]

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little TOY lens, March 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Diana F+ Lomography Diana F+ 38mm Super Wide Angle Lens (Electronics)
So far, this lens is awesome. It is a plastic toy camera lens and it has exceeded my expectations. As another reviewer stated, you do have to meter manually and you can do this by just adjusting your settings a few times. Eventually, you will find a sweet spot for this lens. I took it out this afternoon for a few minutes and got some really DREAMY shots. I shot RAW and other than adjusting for my white balance, there was very little to no post processing. If you are looking for something FUN, then pick up this lens. As far as construction quality and giving it 5 stars, it is plastic, it is not an expensive lens, so you get what you pay for and I didn't pay much, so I am not expecting a high-quality lens.

I wish this was the standard lens included in purchase of the Diana F+. The combination of medium format film with this wide angle lens is perfect. I have loved all pictures using this lens. So far, no complaints.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not great for use with DSLR, January 7, 2012

I ordered this along with the adapter for the Canon EOS mount for my wife's Canon 20D. I am by no means the photographer in the family, but I thought she would enjoy playing with this. While it attached and was able to take pictures, it didn't really give the wide angle that I know my wife enjoys. I'm sure it works great for the Diana camera, and I'm sure there are technical reasons why it didn't work for my wife's camera. Overall, it worked just fine just do not buy if you intend to use it with a DSLR.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great "walk around" Lomography lens, July 4, 2011

This is a handy lens to carry around. Still, your photos won't look like the pictures printed on the box. It's an inexpensive and a refreshing change, in an artsy way, from your expensive lenses. Add this to your collection. You won't break the bank on this one.

Very good price for a great product - amazon has done it again! Consistently lower prices than anywhere else on the internet, and free shipping. Going to pick up my first two wide-angle 120 rolls from the photolab today, can't wait to see how they turned out!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not up to par, even at the toy camera level, October 28, 2009

This review is from: Diana F+ Lomography Diana F+ 38mm Super Wide Angle Lens (Electronics)
I've found the image quality from this lens to be significantly lower than the stock Diana camera lens. The Super Wide Angle offers an attractive frame with a wide field, but short of a fisheye.
After shooting a decent number of rolls, in a variety of conditions, over the past 9 months, I've consistently experienced soft focus and poor exposure in the center of the image, while the periphery is sharper and better exposed- not what I'd expect from even a plastic lens at this focal length.
The effect is neither visually pleasing, nor salvageable, merely disappointing and costly, with processing and scanning of a few rolls of Pro 120 film costing more than the Diana & lens. I'll concede It's not out of the question the issue is specific to my lens and I will check in to that, but I'm pretty disappointed with 11 out of 12 images shot with the 38; whereas, the stock lens was generating 4-5 out of 12 appealing images per roll.
The fun of toy cameras is the happy accidents. With the 38mm Super Wide, they're like unfortunate accidents.

As usual, construction is fragile at best, though not as likely to immediately lose it's outer ring.

my 2+ cents.
