This review is from: Diana - Story of A Princess (Episodes 1 - 4) (DVD)
This production is nothing but a hit piece on Princess Diana that easily could have been written and produced by her earstwhile husband and his family. Inteviews in the film with British journalists demonstrated a distinctly biased point of view in an obvious attempt to portray this woman as a lunatic while giving her adulterous (former) husband a pass.

If you are interested in seeing a portrait of a woman who grew into her role under impossible circumstances, this DVD is not for you. Missing from the piece is one shred of understanding of the impact of the neglect and ill treatment upon a young woman played out in the public eye by a husband and family who seethed at her popularity. The mistreatment and ultimate betrayal by that family is neatly glossed over in this biased production.

Allusions are made to Diana's "obsessive" suspicions about her husband's affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles. Sadly, reality has proven her suspicions to be correct after her passing.

For a more interesting and accurate portrait of this compelling woman, I refer readers to "Princess Diana, the Lamb to the Slaughter" by Joy Jones Daymon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very realistic and Truthful, June 2, 2007
This review is from: Diana - Story of A Princess (Episodes 1 - 4) (DVD)
Most of what was covered in this DVD was also touched upon in the book Diana by Sarah Bradford. Both the DVD and the book tell a realistic tale of a favored and sought after icon - Princess Diana. I am a fan of her's and even though both book and DVD cover the petty things that went on between Charles and Diana -- I still enjoyed learning more about her. I do believe she and Charles wasted a lot of time on the petty stuff but I believe Charles and the Royals did not have Diana's welfare in mind when they set out to make her Charles' wife. They got the gal they wanted - innocent, adoring of Charles, who bore them an heir (and a spare) to the thone but who grew up before their eyes, the public's eyes, and in her own eyes and discovered too late, what had been done and what part she played. The knowledge of Camilla hanging over the marriage helped to destroy the fairy tale -- how could anyone live with someone who really didn't love them. Princess Di was also her own worst enemy in many ways. The reality of it all does not diminish my fanship of her. I still miss her......... she was the people's princess and always will be! I highly recommend the DVD to any fan of Diana's.

5.0 out of 5 stars Diana Story of a Princess, March 6, 2006
This review is from: Diana - Story of A Princess (Episodes 1 - 4) (DVD)
I thought this DVD set was quite good. I have long been interested in Queen Elizabeth II and her family and have read a great deal about all members of the family, especially Diana. Because there has been so much written about Diana, I try to limit my reading to authors who either have first hand knowledge or at least, name their sources. I try to avoid the really gossipy, speculative types. This DVD features interviews with people who knew Diana directly throughout various periods in her life. The DVD set is very reasonably priced and I would recommend it to anyone who is considering its purchase.
