Product Description

Why did we choose the Diaper Dekor Plus over other diaper pails? Because our testers found it contained odors better and was the easiest to use! No yucky pushing, twisting, or otherwise messing with dirty diapers; just step on the hands-free pedal and drop the diaper inside. Plus, it's a terrific value: the liners are economical, and it lives on as a trash can once your diapering days are done. Finally, we like the Diaper Dekor Plus' streamlined, contemporary look. Because the best diaper disposal system is the one you notice least! Holds an average of 40 diapers. Disposable refill included. The Diaper Dekor Plus' rubber-sealed door does an excellent job of locking odors inside. No filters or batteries needed. Child and pet safe; diaper pail can only be opened via the foot pedal Liner refills are economical, averaging out to just a few pennies per diaper. The Diaper Dekor Plus includes one refill (enough to hold approximately 335 diapers). Diaper Dekor liners are easy to remove and replace. To empty a full diaper pail, open the door, cut the liner above the full bag using the built-in cutter, and tie a new knot. Diaper pail is made of durable, scratch and odor-resistant ABS plastic This diaper pail holds an average of 40 diapers (depending on diaper sizes), which means you don't have to change refills as often The Diaper Dekor Plus measures 13 1/4"L x 9 1/2"W x 21"H

My mother had originally bought me a diaper genie. We didn't know it wouldn't work with cloth diapers because of the crazy way the bags are cut. (I personally think this is a waste of plastic concerning the bags, and the cutting mechanism takes up a lot of space in the actual diaper pail...) My husband saw this at BabiesRUs and we took it out of the box to check it out. It seemed like it would work with cloth diapers so we bought it. I'm glad we did, because it has been a great addition to our cloth diaperig regime. Instead of using the included plastic bags, I put a Thirsties diaper pail liner in there. It fit perfectly, and then the dirty cloth diapers and wipes are simply pushed through the door on top. Smell doesn't seem to be an issue, since the top is sealed with a rubber gasket, and it works way better than having just a liner that we had hanging on the door - husband complained of smell after only one day.

The only issue I have is that the door seemed to be getting a bit stuck this morning, not wanting to fully close - and we've only had the pail for 2 days. Maybe it's just in the way that I had last opened the pail - I'm going to check it out further. If it is a design flaw, I'll return it and keep searching for that "perfect cloth diapering pail".

I love this diaper pail. After watching two sisters struggle with finding the right diaper pail for cloth diapers - I was THRILLED to find this one. It works well for both cloth & disposables and completely locks in the odor. Mind you - you can only fit about 2 days of diapers if you're using cloth - but still plenty of time to build up a pretty good smell.

I highly recommend this pail. It works well with thirsties and swaddlebees brands cloth pail liners. Or you can use the plastic refill bags too.

This product is so superior to the diaper genie it's not even in the same ballpark. With the genie, you have to lift the lid, squish the soiled diaper into the chamber (watch those hands), turn the bezel, push down again to make a hollow chamber for the next time (using both hands), close the lid. With the Dekor, you just press with your foot, insert, and let go. No contest. BUT, the real key is that the refills (for both products) are expensive (more for the dekor). However, with the dekor, you can use a regular tall kitchen garbage bag. So instead of paying something like 75 cents for each full pail, you pay a few cents (the cost of a kitchen garbage bag). It takes about an extra minute to do it this way, but I believe, well worth it.

Bags don't hold nearly as many diapers as advertised, but we like this pail anyway. It really does contain the smell well. We're going to try the regular garbage bags that fit this pail though, instead of buying the more expensive refills.

Update from Dec. 28, 2014:
We are still using our Diaper Dekor and we still like it. Several months ago, we began using standard 13 gallon kitchen garbage bags with the drawstring tops instead of the expensive refills. We buy the 13-gallon bags in bulk at Costco (Kirkland brand) and save a ton of money.

We did notice after using our Diaper Dekor for several months that a smell developed that just wouldn't go away even when we hosed down the empty can outside and let it dry out and air out. We ended up using a diluted bleach solution and paper towels to wipe down every inch of the garbage can inside, even in the nooks and crannies, because that's where the odor-causing bacteria thrive in the slightly moist air. That solved the problem for a while, but the odor did come back faster than it had first developed. To be fair, I don't think any can that has moist, smelly diapers in it can stay odor-free for months, no matter what the manufacturer claims.

We have solved the problem now by putting only wet diapers in it, not poopy ones. The poopy ones go in a small pail in our very cold garage, and get emptied daily with other household trash. We don't tend to have diaper odor problems in the house anymore, and the garage is so cold there are no problems there either. In the summer though we will need to dispose of the poopy diapers into the outside garbage cans right away. Also, anyone with pets would need to make sure that animals can't get to the soiled diapers.

I read lots of reviews when looking for a diaper pail and decided on this one based on reviews and price point. I now wish I would have spent the extra money and got the one I really wanted.
We cloth diaper so keep that in mind when reading this review.
The pail is made of plastic. I wish it was sturdier. The plastic is a bit thin and just feels a little cheap. Its difficult to dispose of cloth diapers through the little door when you open the lid. The diaper door is too small for our bigger, bulkier pocket diapers so we end up not even using the door or the hands free lid opening since we have to open the whole top to dispose of our diapers. Our baby is breastfed and not on solids yet so we haven't had any odor issues. We use a planet wise wet bag which fits fine and is easy to put on but not as easy to remove once the bag is full of diapers. We have a large diaper stash of about 45 diapers. I bought this many because I didn't want to have to do laundry every day but this diaper pail is so small that I HAVE to do laundry every day because it's overflowing.
If you don't mind doing a load of diapers daily then this is a good option for the price point.
