5.0 out of 5 stars No more stink!!
My husband and I love the genie!! I believe it is worth the expense (which isn't really that bad). I know that without the genie the nursery would be unbearable because of the smell. 3.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it for newborns
Our baby is 2 months old, and we have been through 7 refills, and I've just decided we can't afford it anymore. While I really like the diaper genie system and it makes throwing diapers away easy and convenient, I just don't think it's worth it during this newborn stage. We have changed an insane number of diapers, but since I am breastfeeding, they don't really stink...

5.0 out of 5 stars No more stink!!, July 9, 2004
This review is from: Diaper Genie 3pack Refill (Baby Product)
My husband and I love the genie!! I believe it is worth the expense (which isn't really that bad). I know that without the genie the nursery would be unbearable because of the smell. With the genie, there is no smell!! Well...the genie itself does start to smell inside (which is not noticeable until emptying the pail), so we just put a "stick-ups" inside the side and bottom of pail. The genie may sound tricky at first, but is actually very easy to use. You just have to be sure not to push the diaper in past the "teeth" and twist a couple of times so the diapers are not just falling in the pail. As stated previously, be sure to get the right size refills and I highly recommend switching to the toddler (green) refills when your child reaches that stage. Toddlers do make bigger and smellier messes and those refills are thicker.
I highly recommend this product!

4.0 out of 5 stars Smell free nursery... with a few drawbacks..., October 23, 2002
This review is from: Diaper Genie 3pack Refill (Baby Product)
I really like the Diaper Genie... I can finally walk into my nursery and not tear up from the smell of dirty/stinky diapers! Although I have found the smell-free zone appealing, there are a few drawbacks to the device. It is a bit complicated to figure out... make sure you save the instructions, you will need to review them from time to time. It does fill up fast, but I would be changing a regular diaper pail just as frequently. The refill bags last for a reasonable amount of time (about two weeks), but you do have to buy Playtex's brand of refills and not some of the cheaper generic brands. (Be careful too that you get the correct refill bags, since there is a wide mouth unit and a smaller older version.... I can thank my husband for finding out about that one!) All in all, I have found that the benefits far outweigh the pains in using this device. If I had to do it over again, I would opt for the unit just so that I can enjoy time in my nursery with my baby without having to feel like I am trapped in a porto-potty!

4.0 out of 5 stars How to save the refill...., February 26, 2004
By

This review is from: Diaper Genie 3pack Refill (Baby Product)
Our son is 6 month now. We quickly learn that the refill is expensive. However, we find out soon that for the newborn the diaper is typically not that stinky. The way we save is not to spin wrap for every diaper. Instead only do the spin-wrap for the specially stinky one (for example --- spill over.) Even with the BM diapers, typically if you wraps diaper back by itself, with the sented used wipe within it. It is not stinky at all. So we end up only have one or two spin-wrapping per full load. That drastically slow down the need for the refills. Hope this tip help others.

5.0 out of 5 stars I was worried for no reason, April 16, 2002

I thought the whoole diaper genie thing would be a waste of time and money because of the purchase of the liners/refills but they really do last a long time. I bought these when my kid was not even born yet and have only used ONE in three months. We are only on our second pack, or our first refill container. The genie comes with one inside. Worth the money they last long time.

While I really like the diaper genie system and it makes throwing diapers away easy and convenient, I just don't think it's worth it during this newborn stage. We have changed an insane number of diapers, but since I am breastfeeding, they don't really stink that badly. Maybe when my baby gets older and the diapers get fewer in number but stinkier, I will go back to the diaper genie. For now, I've found a good use for my grocery store plastic bags.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVIN' THE DIAPER GENIE!!, July 1, 2004
By
This review is from: Diaper Genie 3pack Refill (Baby Product)
We are LOVIN' the Diaper Genie! I originally purchased Kushies cloth diapers but had to wait before my newborn could fit them. So I started using disposable diapers (or nappies as my NZ hubby calls them) with the Diaper Genie. So for weeks I took the diaper off the newborn...opened the Diaper Genie....placed the diaper down....twist....GONE...I LOVE IT!! My husband and I have no problems with replacing the film or emptying the Diaper Genie when full. But we also know how to hook up VCRS/stereos/DVD players to our television. So in other words...some people may find it difficult...others won't. That's just how the world is. All I have to say is those Kushies diapers were marched back to Babies R Us as I couldn't picture myself teaching a full day then coming home to the joy of washing loads of dirty diapers when SNAP they are gone in the Diaper Genie in a matter of seconds! As for the cost of the refills....shhhhhh you can get them cheaper at your grocery store then here! But shhhh don't tell anyone! ;-) Cheers and enjoy your baby!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Can still use these through the toddler years, March 2, 2003
This review is from: Diaper Genie 3pack Refill (Baby Product)
My son is almost 26 months, and these refills are great. One refill lasts me 3 weeks to a month. I use the Diaper Genie for wet diapers only (we have a small, discrete pail outside for poopy diapers). I do this because I've found the infant refills last longer than the toddler ones, and there's less smell when I empty it. My son is in size 4 diapers, and I empty the Genie every 4-5 days (they recommend every 3, I believe). It is big enough to last a week, though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kids are 6, 10, &12: now use genie for scoopable pet litter, September 1, 2004

We have gotten a lot of use out of our diaper genie(s).
We had 2: one each for upstairs and downstairs while
the kids were in diapers. Now we use one next to the
cat litter trays (we have 3 cats). The genie gets full
every week.

Now a comment/trick that I learned to make the twisting
part to work better for the first few times after
emptying. I learned to tie the know on the bottom and
pull the liner down do that you can wedge the cut end of
the film in between the bottom door and the hinge. This
keeps the bottom of the liner from twisting with the top
so that it is easier to twist the new diaper into place.
(I'm suprised Playtex never thought of this. I want
royalties if this ever becomes an "improvement".) My
trick is essential in "cat litter mode".

Hopefully you all now will use your diaper genies for
years after your kids outgrow them. I have to say that
this is an extremely durable product that has stood the
test of time. Diaper genies are one of the greatest
inventions of all times!

1.0 out of 5 stars Get better refills, December 31, 2002

The blue edge refills are a waste of money. They have a green edge refill marked for "toddlers" that is thicker and better at odor control. I recommend those even for babies. They cost the same per package. I'm not sure if they are the same length or not. They are much harder to find in stores.

If ever there was a product that deserves an award.. it's this one! No messy diaper pails to clean. No stinky odors to smell. And it's so easy to use, that even my husband likes to change diapers!
