This review is from: Diaphragmatic Deep Breathing (Audio CD)
This CD contains three tracks: in one, the guy tells us to breath slowly, with our diaphragm and noticing how our belly expands, that's it, literally. The other two are music tracks. There is nothing I like about this CD: the voice, and how in some sections the guy seems to be struggling to find air, the pointless explanations, and above all, the music. The music is so bad I first thought it was an experiment. It is made by very vague and unfocused new-agey chords to which some "ethnic" sounds and instruments are added. The funniest thing is that the same instrument loops are randomly played on different parts of the music that have nothing in common. So what you get is that the instruments are totally unrelated to the background music. The third and last track adds another twist to the concept. It has a similar style music (with the same loops that you hear on track one and two) but it also has a frantic tabla rhythm all the way so that you can breath in 4/4 time. It doesn't work musically, but even worse than that is that it is so hard to follow the 4/4 tabla compass, as the strikes are all over the place. C'mon, a fast tabla rhythm to set the pace of a breathing track?? I couldn't think of anything less suitable for that purpose. I frankly don't understand how someone won't feel the shame of editing such a low quality and conceptually weak product. The author, J.J. Semple, is suposed to be a clever and serious guy. That is why my surprise is the more striking. Seriously, I could be sarcastic about it, but I preffer to be honest: don't waste a single cent on this.
