Exactly what I was looking for. Is lovelysiena's review a joke?,

This review is from: Diaphragmatic Deep Breathing (MP3 Download)
A lot of people don't realize that shallow breathing makes them tired because they are not getting enough oxygen. I would guess that shallow breathing is a significant contributor (along with video games) to the epidemic of couch potatoes in this country. I am definitely a shallow breather and I find that if I sit on the couch soon after waking up, I start to feel sleepier and sleepier. However, if I get up in the morning and start moving around, my energy stays good all day. This is of course because moving around gets the oxygen flowing. Diaphargmatic Deep Breathing is very easy to understand and after listening to it once, I became considerably more aware of my shallow breathing and was able to working on correcting it. I am sure that continued listening will make deep breathing a habit. I am confounded by the other reviewer (lovelysiena) who gave this CD a single star and called it..."new agey" in a negative way. I am not sure why someone who doesn't like New Age material (see her other reviews as well) would purchase something that is in Amazon's New Age category. To each his own. Anyway, I don't normally write reviews on Amazon but I felt I had to in this case because I think Diaphargmatic Deep Breathing could help a lot of the tired people out there. And, the mp3 downland is only $2.97.

This review is from: Diaphragmatic Deep Breathing (Audio CD)
This CD contains three tracks: in one, the guy tells us to breath slowly, with our diaphragm and noticing how our belly expands, that's it, literally. The other two are music tracks. There is nothing I like about this CD: the voice, and how in some sections the guy seems to be struggling to find air, the pointless explanations, and above all, the music. The music is so bad I first thought it was an experiment. It is made by very vague and unfocused new-agey chords to which some "ethnic" sounds and instruments are added. The funniest thing is that the same instrument loops are randomly played on different parts of the music that have nothing in common. So what you get is that the instruments are totally unrelated to the background music. The third and last track adds another twist to the concept. It has a similar style music (with the same loops that you hear on track one and two) but it also has a frantic tabla rhythm all the way so that you can breath in 4/4 time. It doesn't work musically, but even worse than that is that it is so hard to follow the 4/4 tabla compass, as the strikes are all over the place. C'mon, a fast tabla rhythm to set the pace of a breathing track?? I couldn't think of anything less suitable for that purpose. I frankly don't understand how someone won't feel the shame of editing such a low quality and conceptually weak product. The author, J.J. Semple, is suposed to be a clever and serious guy. That is why my surprise is the more striking. Seriously, I could be sarcastic about it, but I preffer to be honest: don't waste a single cent on this. |
