5.0 out of 5 stars Yet Another Generatiom September 28, 2009
By Sailor
Format:Paperback
It has been over half a century since I read Anne Frank's diary, but it had such an impact on my life that I have never forgotten it. Today I am buying a copy for my great-granddaughters, just as I did for their mother & grandmother when they were of appropriate ages.

Anne is long gone, but her message for humanity lives on. I don't think my life & worldview would be the same if you have not allowed me to share those days in Amsterdam. Thank you, Anne.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Read. May 9, 2009
Format:Paperback
The Diary of Anne Frank is a must read for anybody. For those who don't know, it was written by a young Jewish girl who was hiding from the Nazis during World War II. It was eloquently written, especially considering the source. It's an eye opening read. Definitely read this.

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT AS EXPECTED June 7, 2013
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
It's a great book with an amazing report of Ann Frank's life. The book got delivered sooner than expected and came it inside a good package and safe. I just think that the book is simple and made with low quality paper, but that's fair for that price. I don't have any complain about it. I always wanted to read this famous book and I really suggest you to buy it. Im sure you'll be amused with this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring and heartbreaking September 22, 2012
Format:Paperback
This is a book that everyone should read which will make people appreciate the life that they have now. I can't imagine having to live in fear from the Germans and having to hide in one room above an office for such a long period of time. This is truly a remarkable story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Makes you thankful for your life today May 21, 2012
Format:Paperback
The Diary of Anne Frank has amazed me at how brave and courageous she was during the time of WWII; she is writing her own life story about how she and her family had to flee from their home and go into hiding for several years, and she recorded vivid impressions of her experiences in her diary.

A common theme that I discovered as I read this book was loneliness and misery. A quote that I found that goes along with this says "I could go on for hours about all the suffering the war has brought, but then I would only make myself more dejected. There is nothing we can do but wait as calmly as we can till the misery comes to an end" (64). To me this quote has a lot of meaning; Anne and her family are suffering while they hide from the outside world and there's nothing they can do but wait, wait for the war to end, or wait for their lives to end -- they don't know what their future will hold so they have to live in fear and doubt. Although Anne is a very sweet and bright young girl, she is living in very hard conditions that bring her down and make her feel very sad and lonely.

The word oppressive, which means difficult to bear, harsh, or cruel, is a very strong word used in Anne's diary. This word stood out to me because Anne uses this word to express her feelings about never being able to do the things she wishes she could do as a little girl, and always being afraid of being found or hurt.

I agree with the statement from a customer that says "It was one of the most moving, powerful experiences I've ever had." Because Anne really expresses a lot of feelings as you read, you find that she is a truly remarkable girl.

I recommend you read this book.

I ordered for my granddaugter who is 12 years old. We had gone to the museum here in Atlanta and she showed interest in reading. We had taken her Mother as a child to the museum in Holland. Feel this book should be required reading for the generations.
