Book Description

Josh Grady is a screwed up teen about to get another chance. After stealing a car, wrecking it in a terrible accident that puts his best friend in a coma, he is given a lucky break he's not sure he deserves. Instead of juvie, he's sent to Shining Star Boy's Ranch. Josh resents the rules, the counselors and the teachers, but most of all he hates the family atmosphere that reminds him of all he's lost. Journaling becomes an outlet that leads to self discovery. After many mistakes, Josh realizes that the hardest lesson of all to learn is forgiveness.

5.0 out of 5 stars believable characters May 19, 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Tracie Hall's characters are so real a person can forget the book is fiction. She knows the mind of a teenage boy so well, especially when it comes to reacting to adults.
The action grabs you and the teenager's reluctance to trust people hits home with anyone who is a teenager or works with teenagers. i would highly recommend this book for anyone between the ages of 12 and 100+.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful YA fiction that rings true June 26, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
As YA novels about troubled teens go, this one is a winner. Traci Hall has pulled off a superb novel that I often found myself staying up later than normal to read more of. "Page turner" is such an overused term that I rarely believe it because I've found it too often not true. This novel, however, more than deserves that designation. It grabs your heart in the beginning and yanks at it all the way through. What I found most interesting was how the author portrayed the up and down emotions that teens go through. Very believable, with a very satisfying--if unexpected--ending. I am so glad I read this.

Traci gives a captivating story about a boy named Josh, that hooks the reader in at the first sentence. Each character has a unique background, and makes the story more and more enjoyable. There is always a new twist in each chapter that drags the reader in and makes them feel like they are a part of the story. Some of the chapters even have a surprise ending that makes you wonder what will happen next. Josh learns throughout the story that second chances do happen and people actually care about him. With these wonderful characters, fantastic writing, and events that took me by surprise I couldn't put the book down. I can't wait for what Traci comes out with next.

5.0 out of 5 stars A quick read April 25, 2011
Format:Paperback
this was a very entertaining and enjoyable book. I would recommend it to anyone, especially people going through a hard time. Because it helps to know you are not alone. Even for parents of teenage boys, you may get a better understanding of what is going on in his brain. Its very uplifting and a quick read. I couldnt put it down. The emotions you go through while reading are fantastic, laughter, tears, happiness and disappointment. There are many books out there but if you want one that feels like you are there I would pick up this book.

Traci Hall has crafted a YA novel that touches the heart, in the realm of the real world. This book accomplishes everything a great novel should - it takes you beyond dimensions greater than our human selves as it deals with pain, joy, heartbreak, faith and ultimately redemption. This is a page-turning tale for all readers, told with soul-searing humanity. A must read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Five Star Review October 29, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
I am a big fan of Traci Hall, and have read all her Wiccan YA stories, which I love. I picked up this book because it sounded intriguing, and I was not disappointed. From page one, I was hooked. This book has it all-heartbreak, laughter and tears. It also has an important message to teenagers, and I can't recommend it enough. The writing is powerful and the story will touch your heart.
