Book Description

November 15, 2000
Corinne Day's photographs have influenced a generation of fashion and documentary image makers. Her pictures unflinchingly document her life and relationships with a realist snapshot aesthetic-representing a youth culture set against the glamour of fashion and avoiding fictionalization or voyeurism. Gaining notoriety both for a scandalous photo of Kate Moss in Vogue in 1993 and for pioneering so-called 'grunge' fashion photography, she was exiled from the mainstream fashion media-which had always been wary of her potential for controversy-a few years later as tastes began to shift towards a more stylized, clean-cut look. Since then her photography has tended to focus on her own life, on the daily lives of her circle of friends. Diary is Corinne Day's first publication, cataloguing the photographer's life over the past five years. The subjects of this book include friends like Tara-a London commune dweller and fashion stylist-and George and Rose, who after being photographed by Day went on to become catwalk models. Their lives intersect in this book, presenting an honest document of contemporary youth with all their habits, desires, fears, and hopes.

5.0 out of 5 stars definitely "heroin-chic",but compelling,masterful&moving, August 27, 2000

This review is from: Diary Corinne Day (Hardcover)
the thing that struck me hardest was amazement that not only corinne day herself but all of her friends featured in this LITERAL diary of a photography book would let themselves and the intimate details of their lives be documented in such an overwhelmingly INTENSE and PERSONAL way.you begin to feel you know these people, you care when they are in obvious pain, you see the narrative of their lives unfolding before you, especially tara, who is obviously a dear friend of corinne day's,probably a former lover.be forewarned:there are explicit scenes of drug use,and even graphic sex in a few pictures.but it is not at all distasteful-in fact,it is somehow profoundly beautiful, and you feel so grateful that these people have shared their lives with you.this book is REALITY in all of its misery and bliss, the black, white, and huge grey space in between.oh,and by the by,a really hot model named georgina cooper who went on to enormous success in the fashion biz is featured in a number of awesome pics here,in case you're most interested in the fashion aspects of corinne's work.granted, she's wearing no makeup, and is stoned in several of the pics, but she still looks gorgeous:o)! i haven't loved a photography book as much as i love this one in a very long time.i will cherish this book always.

4.0 out of 5 stars VERY REAL!!!!, February 21, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Diary Corinne Day (Hardcover)
This was an incredible book. After looking at the pictures I really felt as though I knew Corinne and her friends. The images were very vivid and real. The book totally enraptured me with its realism. Some imgaes were graphic, but they helped add to the genuineness of the book.

Overall, I would hghly recommend it!
