5.0 out of 5 stars definitely "heroin-chic",but compelling,masterful&moving
the thing that struck me hardest was amazement that not only corinne day herself but all of her friends featured in this LITERAL diary of a photography book would let themselves and the intimate details of their lives be documented in such an overwhelmingly INTENSE and PERSONAL way.you begin to feel you know these people, you care when they are in obvious pain, you see...

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit weak
A collection of photos from her personal life, some of which are explicit and some of which are beautiful. The work is strongly reminiscent of that of Nan Goldin both in content and in the use of colors, whose influence the author openly acknowledges. I found the more explicit photos to be the less interesting ones.

the thing that struck me hardest was amazement that not only corinne day herself but all of her friends featured in this LITERAL diary of a photography book would let themselves and the intimate details of their lives be documented in such an overwhelmingly INTENSE and PERSONAL way.you begin to feel you know these people, you care when they are in obvious pain, you see the narrative of their lives unfolding before you, especially tara, who is obviously a dear friend of corinne day's,probably a former lover.be forewarned:there are explicit scenes of drug use,and even graphic sex in a few pictures.but it is not at all distasteful-in fact,it is somehow profoundly beautiful, and you feel so grateful that these people have shared their lives with you.this book is REALITY in all of its misery and bliss, the black, white, and huge grey space in between.oh,and by the by,a really hot model named georgina cooper who went on to enormous success in the fashion biz is featured in a number of awesome pics here,in case you're most interested in the fashion aspects of corinne's work.granted, she's wearing no makeup, and is stoned in several of the pics, but she still looks gorgeous:o)! i haven't loved a photography book as much as i love this one in a very long time.i will cherish this book always.

4.0 out of 5 stars VERY REAL!!!!, February 21, 2003

This review is from: Diary Corinne Day (Hardcover)
This was an incredible book. After looking at the pictures I really felt as though I knew Corinne and her friends. The images were very vivid and real. The book totally enraptured me with its realism. Some imgaes were graphic, but they helped add to the genuineness of the book.

Overall, I would hghly recommend it!

this book is amazing, one of the most visceral collections of photographs i have ever seen. some may be offended by the pictures, but like it or not, this is corinne day's life.

Were I not familiar with Nan G's work, I might have liked the book better. However, when I compare the work to NG's, I find that it does not cut deep enough, less coherent and seems more exploitative, not to mention unoriginal. NG used to give slide shows of the photos to people including the subjects she took photos of. Can Corinne Day do that? Would her subjects come and congratulate her on her exhibit? I don't know, but I somehow doubt it.
