Book Description

September 25, 2006
The world's FIRST novel in blog format, this daring and ground-breaking self-published book brings the internet phenomenon of blogging to the traditional publishing world. In the process, a new and exciting genre is born--a genre that allows everyone (even the technologically challenged) to experience the addictive voyeurism of this hip new medium.

The novel is based on author Ellen Simonetti's controversial true story, which made headlines around the world and caused an international debate about the limits of free speech. It follows the online ramblings of "Queen of Sky," the alter ego of Elena Guaio, a fun-loving, light-hearted and slightly dysfunctional flight attendant for "Anonymous International Airlines." Elena's blog quickly becomes her trusted confidant, which she uses as a release and a tool to sort through the numerous ups and downs of her life.

As the months go by, Elena writes more and more candidly about the irritations of her job. She eventually even decides to post pictures of herself on her blog--pictures in her flight attendant uniform. The result of this seemingly innocent act throws her life into complete disarray. And a struggle of David and Goliath proportions ensues.

With entry titles like "Where's the Glamour," "The Trip from Hell," and "The Joys of Commuting," The Queen of Sky Blog is a realistic and humorous portrayal of a twenty-something single flight attendant just trying to find her way in the Technology Age.

The style of the book is in keeping with the feel of Simonetti's original blog: quirky, frank, and un-politically correct.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Definitely something different, this is claimed as the world's first novel in `blog' format--a web log or online diary maintained in journal style. The author, a twenty-something former flight attendant, gained notoriety in 2004 when she was fired from Delta Air Lines for posting `inappropriate' photos of herself in uniform on her blog. For some time before, she had written candidly--using the name `Queen of Sky'--about the frustrations of her job under such headings of `Where's the Glamour?', `The Trip from Hell', and `The Joys of Commuting'.

Inspired by her blog, the author has crafted a one-year account of the life of the Queen of Sky. As you might expect, the tone is modern, hip, light-hearted, fun-loving, direct, personal--and sometimes rambling. The peccadilloes of passengers, pilots, fellow flight attendants are exposed, along with the trials and tribulations of life on the airways, embracing commuting, bidding systems, the crew base, and selling food on board. Interspersed with these revelations are various experiences, including tidbits of `romance and sleaze' during layovers in South America and Europe.

Although a fictional account, this irreverent and entertaining book realistically and humorously portrays the modern lot of the US-based airline flight attendant. Sit back and enjoy! JW -- Airways Magazine, December, 2006

From the Author

Hi, everybody!

I hope you all enjoy my book! It's totally different from anything you have seen before. I've even included some photos in some of the book's blog posts, just like in a real blog! In order to stick to my artistic vision (the novel-in-blog-format), I had to self-publish.

The book is based on the original first eleven months of my blog...but be forewarned, it is fiction, and the ending is not how things turned out in real life.

Email me (email is on my blog) or message me on MySpace for more info about the book. I'm /queenofsky on MySpace. You can also Google me for more info.

Thanks for supporting a fired blogger!

-Ellen aka Queen of Sky

Wow! This book is AWESOME! For someone who never reads books, I COULD NOT STOP once I started. I got the book in the mail on a Monday and was finished by Tuesday afternoon. When you are reading this book, you feel like you are right there with her along the way. This Book will literally make you laugh and cry. Ellen Simonetti did a fantastic job telling the reader the true side of being in the airline industry. A+++ JOB!

The book came in at the perfect time. I was having my own problems, but picked this book up, and it literally did help me. It made me realize that I am not the only person on this earth with problems, and she is just an everyday person that has helped so many people by making this book. So please, do yourself a favor and buy this book. I promise you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Read!, November 10, 2006

It was very interesting getting something of an inside glimpse into the world of flight attendants. As I started getting into the book, I didn't want to put it down. I was dying to know what happened next! The blog format actually makes it an easy read. The author has a talent for injecting the right amount of humor without over doing it. I thoroughly enjoyed the book!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Queen of the Sky really takes off and tells all!, November 9, 2006
This review is from: Diary of a Dysfunctional Flight Attendant: The Queen of Sky Blog (Hardcover)
Glorious!!!!!!Attention all sky goddesses: This one is for you or for anyone else who wonders what the life of a sky goddess is really like. Follow the adventures of this "queen of the sky" as she begins as a blog virgin and becomes the consummate blog veteran. It will have you lol:-) Her story is an addictive pleasure:-) But what really captures the imagination remains the reality that this fantasy is based upon. It had me cheering for The Queen of the Sky and all the other underpaid, overworked sky divas out there who deserve better treatment from the airline corporations who employ them but sometimes think they own them:-o Viva La Freedom of Speech:-)Buh-bye!
