5.0 out of 5 stars Why does it matter that its fiction?
I have read many reviews about how everyone liked the book until they found out it was fiction(which i might add it says "fiction" on the back). Why does it matter, I love this book, granted the fact that unpublished entries are available on a website that doesnt exist was a bit retarded. 3.0 out of 5 stars I've been had
I read this book three years ago and thought it was fabulous. Then tonight I learned that it is fictional. I don't know whether I should laugh at myself or write a letter of complaint (to whom, I'm not sure). When I read this book in hardback, there was no markings or the fantastical artwork that now adorns the paperback cover to indicate that it was fiction. But, I'm...

I have read many reviews about how everyone liked the book until they found out it was fiction(which i might add it says "fiction" on the back). Why does it matter, I love this book, granted the fact that unpublished entries are available on a website that doesnt exist was a bit retarded. For a book to intrigue and "fool" so many people into believing that it was authentic, well that really says a lot about it, i love that so many people were fooled, including myself, i find it fascinating to say the least, a great read, and not to mention this book, including Stephen King's Rose Red, is actually based off of truth. Just browse the web and you might find information on the Winchester Mystery Mansion, which the stories about that are eerily similar to the story of Ellen Rimbauer.

I think that anyone who loves books about Ghosts or Spirits should definitely read this book, it is intriguing and thrilling.. I know that once i started reading it, i was glued to it.

PS think of it as "inspired by a true story" because in fact, it is.

But, I'm glad to see (based on other comments here) that I wasn't alone in believing that Dr. Joyce Reardon and her sidekick Stephen Rimbauer, characters who so believably introduce and tie up this fictitious diary, were real people. Anyhow, beware. This is not a real diary. It is fiction. Enjoy it as such.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed feelings for so much promise!, October 17, 2006
This review is from: Diary of Ellen Rimbauer (Hardcover)
I have to say that I bought this book but I was left with mixed feelings about it. Maybe I wanted Rose Red to be better than the television, of course, the diary helped explain the obvious sexual relationship between Ellen and her African nurse/maid. I didn't care for the obvious lesbian relationship between them. It just seemed natural after all. It was hardly much of a marriage. We never do get our questions answered about what happened to the house and why people vanished all of a sudden. It makes you wonder and leaves you frustrated by it all. The book tries to solve those questions but I don't think they ever do.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well written and a definate page turner, November 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I really enjoyed this book. (I personally don't care if it was fiction or supposedly true) It was nicely written, had just enough edge to make you want to turn the next page and find out what happened next. I found it a nice tie in to the movie "Rose Red". LOVED the photos included, I have no clue what house they used for this, but it was magnificent.

5.0 out of 5 stars IT IS REAL PARTIALLY!!, September 4, 2008
This review is from: Diary of Ellen Rimbauer (Hardcover)
The book was awesome. I read it 5 years ago. But i do know Ellen and John were real rich people way back and did have a huge mansion because i saw a 30 minute documentary a few weeks before "Rose Red" was on TV.
The grandson was speaking on the documentary and he said he had the house destroyed. I am sure it was haunted. I cannot remember what he said about that. But the 30 minute documentary was real on a noncable TV show at 3AM in the morning. I remember that part. But i am sure the book is "made up" a bit. If that documentary was fake then Titanic is fake.

I fell for the hoax. It was an interesting read until I found out that the author is a man, Joyce Reardon Phd. does not exist, Beaumont University does not exist, and Disney owns the rights to the book and movie!! I wouldn't have been the least bit interested if I'd known it was fiction.
