Editorial Reviews

DIARY OF FORBIDDEN DREAMS is the retitled version of Roman Polanski's 1973 film entitled "WHAT?" It's the story of a beautiful girl lost in a remote area of the Italian Riviera constantly besieged and trapped into bizarre incidents. Sydne Rome survives by her wits as a latter day Alice in a Wonderland of the excessive and rich. Produced by Carlo Ponti

4.0 out of 5 stars Certainly different, even for Polanski buffs., January 10, 2008
This review is from: Diary of Forbidden Dreams (VHS Tape)
"Diary of Forbidden Dreams", formally, "Che", A.k.A "What?", while not a bad film, this is by far Polanski's worst movie. Weird type comedy, remember Polanski's got a very ...sick sense of humor, (just watch his movie with Peter Coyote, 'Bitter Moon'.) It centers around a plot similar to Alice in Wonderland. When beautiful Sydne Rome, stays at a millionaire's mansion, who is a recluse to say the least, she can't seem to grasp all the uproar and havoc she causes. Polanski has a co-starring role... I think his character is called, "Mosquito" or something like that. Marcello Mastroianni, from famous Italian Fellini films, has a strange part as an itchy, conceited, sex crazed pervert. Change of pace for sure by Polanski does work...just not consistently. Worth a look. And to think, the trouble I went through years ago to get this movie. Oh, boy.
