5.0 out of 5 stars She's ba-ack!
Amy Thomas is back! This time she has taken it upon herself to obsess about her pregnancy. She goes through one misadventure after another as she realizes that her birth date's looming and she hasn't achieved the tasks at hand on her 63-item To Do List. To make matters worse, she's lost her job, owns a rather small apartment and her husband finds it difficult to deal with...

3.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining Enough
Great literature it's not, but when you're in the mood for a fun, easy read, why not?

Amy Thomas is a nut -- but I only mean that in the best way. She's silly, she's a bit self-centered and she has her issues. In short, she is just like everyone you know. So to follow her through her career issues and her first pregnancy is certainly fun enough; it's like...

5.0 out of 5 stars She's ba-ack!, May 5, 2003
This review is from: Diary of a Mad Mom-to-Be (Paperback)
Amy Thomas is back! This time she has taken it upon herself to obsess about her pregnancy. She goes through one misadventure after another as she realizes that her birth date's looming and she hasn't achieved the tasks at hand on her 63-item To Do List. To make matters worse, she's lost her job, owns a rather small apartment and her husband finds it difficult to deal with her neurotic manner. She begins to wonder whether having a child was a good idea after all...

This novel is hilarious! Amy's one of the most neurotic characters ever written. Just when I thought she couldn't be more insubordinate in Diary of a Mad Bride, her obsessive behavior reaches outrageous and laugh out loud proportions in the second novel. Laura Wolf is a great writer, not unlike Sophie Kinsella -- author of Confessions of a Shopaholic. Their writing styles are quite similar.

Diary of a Mad Mom-to-Be is a great summer reading investment. Highly recommended...

Loved this book, read it in a day. It was funnier than Diary of a Mad Bride which I read when I was engaged. That one was really cute so I wanted to read this one now that I'm married and babies are on my mind. VERY enjoyable!! I laughed out loud a number of times as she goes through her 9/10 months of pregnancy. She keeps a list of "What no one tells you about pregnancy" that cracks me up as she stumbles upon these things the hard way! You'll love it, too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great preggers-chick book, October 6, 2004

This review is from: Diary of a Mad Mom-to-Be (Paperback)
this is a quick read and side-splittly funny! Laura Wolf captures all the ups and downs of being pregnant for the first time and having to discover all those little things that nobody tells you about before you get pregnant! if you're pregnant or if you best girlfriend is - get this book!!! It cheered me up and helped me laugh my way thru cravings, mood swings, peeing every 20 minutes, and dealing with the well-meaning family members. Also great - Diary of Mad Bride by Laura Wolf

5.0 out of 5 stars Laura Wolf gives birth to another hit!, June 25, 2003

Amy Thomas, now Amy Thomas-Stewart, doesn't think she wants children until out of the blue, she hears her biological clock ticking away. We are with her throughout her entire experience beginning with when she realizes she wants a baby all the way to when she gives birth. Of course, Amy is at again with her 'To Do' list (just like she had in Diary of a Mad Bride), scratching things off as she accomplishes them (if she doesn't run out of time).
But I think the best part of this story comes from the realism that is captured in this story. Amy's relationship with her best friend Mandy becomes strained because, unlike in Diary of a Mad Bride, Mandy is unfamiliar with what Amy is going through and how much it means to her to have a best friend by her side supporting her.
Of course, the ability of Laura Wolf to describe Amy and her experience in such a realistic way helps to make this book actually hysterical. I laughed out loud on several occassions. I actually cried when she had the baby.

I began reading this book at the beauty shop while getting my hair highlighted. I was laughing so hard I am sure everyone thought I was crazy. A great follow up to Diary of a Mad Bride-To-Be, Amy Thomas is even crazier than before! Great for anyone expecting, thinking about expecting or knows someone who is expecting. One of the funniest books I have read in a while.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Follow-up!!!, August 30, 2004

This review is from: Diary of a Mad Mom-to-Be (Paperback)
This book was just as good as Diary of a Mad Bride! Amy Thomas Stewart is a riot!! During the first book we got to follow Amy going crazy and stressing throughout her wedding...this time we follow her into the joys (and pitfalls) of being pregnant.

Deciding almost overnight that she wants to have a baby after swearing she wasn't ready, Amy and Stephen get pregnant, and she buys another trusty manual (remember Beautiful Bride?) to guide her along the way. But more often than not, Baby How, Baby Now, her how-to guide, ends up causing her and Stephen more stress than anything else. Dealing with a new job, a wierdo who's only attracted to pregnant woman, an annoying doctor (the Crotch Whisperer!!), herds of strangers rubbing her belly, and the ever popular To-Do-List, Amy nearly drives herself and her husband nuts, while sending the reader into fits of laughter.

I definitely recommend this book just as I did the first one. For anyone whose had a child, they'll know exactly what Amy's going through...as for the rest of us, we know what to look forward to (ugh!!). I can only hope Ms. Wolf gives us more adventures of Amy, Stephen, and now baby Stewart!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Right on the Money!, June 17, 2003
This review is from: Diary of a Mad Mom-to-Be (Paperback)
I like this book because it was entertaining, funny and in some cases voiced thoughts that I have had while pregnant. My first pregnancy was great and I had many of the same fears that Amy had and then some. Amy had issues that every woman deals whether pregnant or not. Every woman thinks her husband is weird at some point in their marriage or that their grandmother may already be on the other side of the rocker already or that her best friend won't be because she is pregnant. I could really relate and I even got a chance to laugh while doing it. Good job and the best part, is that all of the pains and worries are well worth it once you see that little face looking right back at you.

I laughed from beginning to end. Anyone who has had a baby or is close to someone who has will really get a kick out of this. It has become my new baby shower gift for all my friends.

Love it -- another great yarn about Amy, the fiancee character from Wolf's first novel, and a sort of funny & sly how-to (and how not-to) of pregnancy and childbirth. Definitely better than the other preggo novels out there. Get this one.
