"Diary of a Radical Memaid" is the second book in the "Water Lillies" books by Deborah Smith. While the first book "Alice At Heart" was touching and breath stopping in is originality, the "Diary of a Radical Mermaid" continues to surprise the reader while being funny and outragous in the best possible way.
The book is about Juna Lee Poinfax and Molly Revere, 2 mer females, which means that they are humane but have special traites like being able to dive for over an hour, charming animals and much more. the two helps to keep 3 girls safe from their potentially dangerous father. They also develope affairs with wonderful mer-men. The plot thickens when we learn about a plot of an oil company to ruin the world as we know it.But it is not realy a suspence book but a rather a love/fantasy book which creates a world with its own rules. It was also wonderfuul to meet the characters from the first book and to learn more about the mer people world.I recommend this books specially to people who read the first book, but I believe that anyone who reads this books can enjoy it by itself.

I recently have been turned onto Belle Books and the Waterlilies series and I absolutely LOVE it! Deb Smith has done a wonderful job in this second book with excitment, enchantment and wittiness. The story focuses on Juna Lee, a merfolk who is starting an on-line journal about the life of merfolk. Juna soon becomes involved in an adventure only fit for a mermaid! Diary is an exellent read and fit for anyone who has imagination and heart.

Diary of a Radical Mermaid,

I absolutely loved "Alice at Heart". It was a beautiful, lyrical story with five haunting love stories intertwined. I could not wait to read "Diary". What a let-down. It's hard to believe the same author penned both books. In fact, I am inclined to believe Smith paid the high schooler down the street a few bucks to scratch out this cliche.
You want to read a lovely, elegant novel: read "Alice At Heart". You want to read hackneyed tripe, read "Diary of a Radical Mermaid."

starts off fun and quirky but then just gets silly and predictable. the title sold me. just wish it stayed true to the fanciful title. not a bad read though.

I enjoyed this book a great deal. Great, fast read where you didn't have to think about the story. It's not high literature, but it is delightful!

Diary of a Radical Mermaid was a wonderful second installment in the Waterlillies saga. It picked up right where Alice at Heart left off and for me, revisited the magnificent history, colors, tastes, smells and emotions that got me hooked in the first book! Romantic without being over the top, and exciting enough to keep me from putting the book down! I hope Deborah Smith continues this series, and I will be one of the first to pick up the third installment!

I must disagree completely with previous reviewers who liked Alice at Heart but not this book. I liked Alice but could not put this down. It was funny, had some adventure and action, and just enough romance for those that enjoy that part of the story. I hope to see a sequel to this story and anxiously await learning more about Ms. Smith's Mer world and to see if Melasine, the Old One, will finally appear. Until then, I will remain a Floater ( read the book ) and hope for Book Three in the series.

I had been looking forward to a sequel of ALICE AT HEART and was so disappointed in this book! I did not like Juna Lee at all. And the "magic" that was in the first book was missing in this one. Deborah - I love your books - they are some of my most favorite and most re-read. Please write another "Alice" book and bring back the "magic"!

What a departure from, and a trite story to follow the likes of Alice at Heart. I had anticipated this 2nd in the series for months and months and was so disappointed I had to make myself finish reading it. "He swept me into his arms from behind, without touching me. He filled my body, filled my mind, nearly absorbed me in a devoted hum of energy." Now please.
