In 7th or 8th grade I started really worrying about being fat, and wanting to lose weight. I generally would start doing exercises, then stop, not having the discipline to keep at it. About the Author
Martha M. grew up in upstate New York and moved to New York City and then to Europe, where she eventually recovered from bulimia, married, and started a family. She earned her master’s degree in psychology at a renowned European University. A poet and songwriter, she gives occasional concerts.

This is how Martha M. describes her purpose for writing "Diary of a Recovered Bulimic." I found this book to be fascinating and enlightening. By excerpting her journals from the time she was a teen and developed an eating disorder to her eventual recovery in her 20s and then giving insights from her current life experience into why she was making the decisions that she did, Martha shows how easy it is for eating disorders to begin, how much they are related to emotional issues besides eating or even body image, and how long and difficult the process of recovery is. So many times while reading this book I would hope that young women just beginning with eating disorders, their parents, and their friends would also discover it and get the information and help that Martha did not have. Still, this is much more than a self-help book. I found Martha's real life experiences to be deeply engaging as a story. Even though I knew the end (I'm one of those people who always reads the last chapter first), I kept going through the whole book wanting to know what would happen to Martha and her family. This is a book that will greatly benefit many readers.
