Urban Fiction at Its Finest!, May 17, 2006
Diary of a Street Diva by Ashley JaQuavis (two authors writing under one name) is a riveting, urban tale that chronicles the hard knock life of Remy Morgan. Remy has been to hell and back twice. She has lived more in barely two decades than many have journeyed in seven.
Abandoned as a child, Remy has moved from one foster home to another, each with its own set of issues, conflicts and/or abuse. As the story opens, Remy has yet again run away from one of the many foster homes where she has spent a brief stint. This time she has no intentions of returning. Young, inexperienced, uneducated and lacking any marketable skills, the opportunities for making decent money and finding a good job are limited. For Remy, making ends meet include stints on the pole (i.e. strip dancing) and 'cutting' drugs, until she meets Khadafi.
Overnight she quickly goes from rags to riches and is instantly hob-knobbing with the rich and famous as she builds a life with Khadafi. But nothing that has ever come easy has ever been long-lasting for Remy. When tragedy strikes, Remy finds herself quickly on the streets again...until she is rescued by Cease, Khadafi's right hand man. Cease sets out to make good on his promise to Khadafi-that he would always take care of Remy. Finally feeling secure and protected, Remy lets her guard down and allows herself to experience love-Cease style. She believes that her life can have a happy ending and begins journaling her life story. She is unprepared for the chain of events that occur when her diary falls into the wrong hands. Chaos and mayhem ensue, friendships are broken, innocent lives are lost and nothing will ever be the same.
Diary of a Street Diva by Ashley JaQuavis is urban fiction at its finest! Every now and then, I step out of my zone to read genres that I normally would not. With urban fiction, one is guaranteed to have an action-packed, fast-paced read filled with several elements: dealers, drugs, violence, and women who lack self esteem. Albeit, many are not very well-written but most of them are usually extremely PREDICTABLE! I was pleasantly surprised when I picked up Diary of a Street Diva. This dynamic duo has achieved what many have attempted but few have done successfully. They have produced and delivered a well-written, tightly crafted, smooth paced, story-driven urban novel! They actually gave me an urban fiction read that had good storytelling! Diary of a Street Diva was an intense, climatic read with spellbinding twists and turns. Just when I thought the script could not be flipped anymore...they did it again...and again! I was speechless as I sat with my mouth wide open and internally shouted, "No they didn't take me there!"
Ashley and JaQuavis are young in age (late teens/early twenties) but their writing is spirited and has the maturity of a more seasoned team. They have raised the bar for urban fiction; wannabees need not apply unless they can deliver with the same or better quality than Ashley and JaQuavis! Kudos to Ashley and JaQuavis on a job well done and I hope that they will continue to produce storylines that tell a compelling story and leave me speechless!

Fairy tales, June 23, 2006
No money more problems. And the rich think they have it bad. Check out Remy Morgan, orphaned and trying to make a dollar. The people that Remy rely on appear to be sick, which leads her from one bad place to the next. Possibly she's quick enough with the grip as Remy may have picked the wrong pocket to trick. Can it be has Remy found her real life prince?
I doubted that two authors would be able to remain consistent. Nice flow.

From Rags to Riches!, April 1, 2007
This is not your typical rags to riches story and not your typical urban tale either. Remy is the realest street character I have read about ever! She is not perfect by any means. She is insecure at times she makes mistakes she learns from her mistakes gets up dusts herself off and tries again. This is what makes this story so appealing. She doesn't come off as this one dimensional persona at all. She also grows up in the story. She becomes sophisticated as well as street smart which makes her colder than a mutha! She is definitely a force to be reckoned with.
The authors did a perfect job telling a story that may not appeal to the masses but can be enjoyed by many over a span of many ages. The other characters in the book are well written as well and that is what gives the book the edge a lot of urban fiction is missing.
I read the book in a span of six hours so it is def. a page turner and just when you think you have it all figured out BAM! That is all I have to say!
