5.0 out of 5 stars mindless and fun entertainment
I picked up this book at a bookstore, not knowing anything about the author or the web site. I wasn't sure I would enjoy this book, but once I got into it, I started to have fun. Like reading a Jackie Collins novel, this book manages to entertain. Don't read it if you want to learn anything. Just read it for fun. It tells the story of this therapist and the entries she...

3.0 out of 5 stars Too much fun!
An irresistible romp, reading this is like eating a box of Godiva chocolate truffles in one sitting. You may feel a bit guilty afterwards! Our heroine is a lust-filled married woman with a cold, cold husband. Poor dear, she turns to the muscular and handsome gardener (yes, the gardener) who tends the plants at her office. Shades of Lady Chatterley! There are plenty of "naughty bits" though nothing outright pornographic. The protagonist is a therapist but seems to have her own anger control issues. Almost every discussion with her husband ends with her throwing something.... Not that we blame her: As the story goes on, the husband turns out to be a dirty rotten cheating scoundrel. On top of that, there are office politics, scandals and rivalries. Everything is over the top and not very believable, but fun. Oh, and beware -- the ending is a cliff-hanger, so you feel compelled to get the next book in the series.

Like reading a Jackie Collins novel, this book manages to entertain. Don't read it if you want to learn anything. Just read it for fun. It tells the story of this therapist and the entries she keeps in her diary. From trying to keep her marriage together, to being attracted to other men. From losing weight to gaining weight, job problems, children problems. It covers it all. A fun and entertaining book! I am certainly looking forward to the next installments. This book would also certainly qualify as a great summer read!

5.0 out of 5 stars I am "V"!, February 24, 2003

The Diary of V series is wonderful! I felt like I could have substituted "V" for "J" and the story was about me. Her feelings and reactions to her husband, her love of men finding her attractive, her "crushes", and her friendships with the women of the story rang so true for me. I just really related to the main character of this book.

If you want to read the hilarious tale of a woman going through an affair, a cheating husband, raising a young son, and getting fat on top of that then this is the book for you. You can relate to V and watch her come out victorious and overcome the hurdles in her life. It will make you feel her pain and cheer for her when she succeeds. Great read!

I absolutely loved this book. So much, in fact that I bought the others (The Breakup, and Happily Ever After) and read them all in one weekend! I can't wait until the next one comes out!

4.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't Put It Down !!!, July 25, 2001
This review is from: The Diary of V: The Affair (Mass Market Paperback)
No, this book will not provide you with the meaning of life, but if you are looking for a light, easy read, this one is definately a page-turner. I couldn't put it down!!! The main character did not always make the best moral decisions, and even became a bit unrealistic at times, but it's part of her intrigue. I can not wait to see what happens to her next!! Give it a try!

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful ending and extremely unrealistic, June 25, 2001

This book was engrossing like a car wreck, it became ridiculous and made it hard for me to respect the main character. It really was a soap opera, and there was no ending - the author does not wrap up the story; she wants you to buy the rest of her books. Totally disappointing and not worth it. Save your money and buy Bridget Jones or Confessions of a Shopaholic. More entertaining and satisfying, in my opinion.

4.0 out of 5 stars Smoldering!, June 25, 2001
This review is from: The Diary of V: The Affair (Mass Market Paperback)
The cover got my attention and the first few pages got me hooked. For anyone that has ever been married and has experienced that "rut" this will hit home (well, at little exaggerted). Valerie is our heroine who is stuck with a husband who no longer pays any attention to her, only their child. After many attempts to bring the sparks back, her eyes are drawn towards Eddie, the plant guy at the office.

This just starts a series of problems in Valerie's life that never seem to improve, only get worse. Her relationships with both men seem to twist and turn, one cold and the other, very, very hot. This is fast reading! I kept telling myself one more page but then couldn't wait till the next.

Can't wait for the next sequel to arrive in August!

4.0 out of 5 stars Comfortable writing, June 21, 2001
By
"modoreese" (Calgary, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Diary of V: The Affair (Mass Market Paperback)
I picked up this book knowing nothing about the story, or Redbook's web site or anything, but the writing style and flow really intrigued me. It's a nice casual style, like getting an email from an old friend. There's some laugh out loud funny bits, and some brutal truths.

But like one other review said, it veered off into the unbelievable once in a while. I believed everything with Eddie, but once he was gone, it felt like the book lost track, it wasn't sure where to go.

That said, I'll pick up the sequel. The first half of the book is still great for the enjoyment it gave me. It's mind candy, but it's a homey kind.
