Editorial Reviews

Greg Heffley, the kid who made “wimpy” cool, is back in this sidesplitting sequel based on the second installment of the best-selling book series! Having rid himself of the Cheese Touch , Greg enters the next grade with his confidence and friendships intact, and an eye on the new girl in town, Holly Hills . But at home, Greg is still at war with his older brother, Rodrick, so their parents have handed down the toughest “punishment” imaginable – forcing the boys to spend quality time with each other.

My review title says it all! And I'm glad I ordered it on Amazon, which cost less than ten dollars while the same movies in stores everywhere are running as high as $20. Some critics here tend to think the book is better than the movie, but until you've seen the poor kid running through an old folk's home in nothing but his UNDERWEAR and the hilarious pranks pulled against each other, y'all have no right to judge! I laughed like crazy from beginning to end. Some days, it feels so good to laugh and these movies will do it for you! Hope they make more of them. I enjoyed this movie a lot!

In his latest book, DIARY OF A WIMPY KID: RODRICK RULES, Jeff Kinney nearly put me into the hospital. That man is going to have serious medical bills to pay if this keeps up. I almost busted a gut laughing out loud and almost aspirated my Diet Dr Pepper on a few occasions. And, yes, I hold him completely responsible.

If not for Kinney's dry wit, keen insight into the lives of elementary school boys (especially their rationalization for EVERYTHING), and fantastic line drawing on nearly every page, I wouldn't have had so many close brushes with death in his latest book. But he put me there time and time again. Even when I thought I had things figured out (because I was once an elementary school boy with a wild imagination without a governor), Jeff would throw a wrinkle at me that I didn't see coming. He ambushed me with regularity throughout the pages.

But it's not just me that Jeff has his merciless sights on. He's taking out EVERYBODY. My wife teaches elementary school and Jeff's books are all the rage among the students. I have to admit to adding to that bonfire because I talk about his books all the time (and I have to admit that I haven't quite become the responsible adult either, because I'll rile my wife's fourth grade class up and take my leave--taking her out to dinner usually gets me off the hook and my cool points go up with the kids).

Parents have become interested in the books and I've told them they need to keep up with what their kids are reading. After all, they're supposed to be responsible parents.

My son like almost every other kid in America right now, loves the series. He saw the first movie and read the books.

I took him to see this one and found myself chuckling as well. It's another nice coming of age film with no scenes that I can remember off hand wishing they'd have deleted (saw it opening weekend).

This movie may be set in current times, but you can tell the author grew up in the 70's to 80's. There's the roller skating rink scene and the flash back to the Partidge Family type band. The humor is classic and funny for all ages.

This was a good movie and both the kids and I stayed interested. However unlike the books Roderick actually warms up to Greg. This sentimentality is not featured in the book series and may reflect a Hollywood desire for some niceness. It turned me off a bit but it's still a good movie with some funny lines. I kind of miss the mean Roderick though.

A Kid's Review on August 24, 2008

I think Jeff Kinney hit the BullsEye with the Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I first read some of it at the internet. However it did not take me long to figure out that I had to have a hard copy of this book. Once I got it, I read it from start to finish and was unable to put it down until the end. It is THAT hilarious! The writing by itself is good and the cartoons make all that even better! And I am not the only one to love it. Since the time I got it, my book is being borrowed again and again by all my friends. In fact, I haven't seen it myself for long. It is just being passed from one friend to another. And we are all waiting for the next book in the Wimpy Kid series. I don't have an older brother. But although Greg seems to be complaining a lot about his brother Roderick, I wish I could get all this kind of troubles that Greg gets with Roderick. Life would be that much more interesting!!!!

Another series that we all cannot get enough of is Why Some Cats are Rascals ( Book 3). We are all looking forward to book 4 in the series, It is actually a diary of a naughty cat, believe or not.

"You'll always be my brother, but you'll never be my friend." After the fighting between the two brothers gets out of control Greg (Gordon) and Rodrick (Bostick) are forced to spend the weekend together, just the two of them. After becoming friends again one incident rips them apart and the family worries it may never be fixed. After reading the first book and watching the first movie, both of which I liked, I had higher expectations for this one. My son loves these books and movies so it's a lot of fun to watch him laugh at the movie, almost more fun then the actual movie is. Being that this is a kids movie I will make this one short. Overall I thought the first one was better, but my kids liked this one a lot more. I give it a B, my kids give it an A+

Would I watch again? - I saw it in theaters, then watched it again on DVD. My kids have seen it like 5 times already.
