5.0 out of 5 stars I want to read more from this author!!
What a great book! I literally could not put it down. I loved the author's writing style and was laughing out loud at several different points throughout the story. I will definitely be recommending this book to my girlfriends and will be on the lookout for more from this author!

3.0 out of 5 stars Robin's Rants
I thought this book was rather predictable. Another Sophie Kinsella, Candace Bushnell knock off want-to-be. The author tends to be a bit cliche and verbose, and I found myself often skimming over paragraphs to get to the point.

However, it's the perfect brainless read for summertuime fun!

2.0 out of 5 stars I Couldn't Finish This Book, January 19, 2010

I loathed the main character, maybe because she reminded me too much of people I have actually worked with in the corporate world. I thought she was obnoxious and self-absorbed, and by the middle of the book I had no interest in how it would end.

Meeting men can be a challenge. No one knows that better than New York City-based singleton Lane Silverman. As a freelance writer, she has quickly learned that meeting a good man is near impossible; especially when you spend most of your time draped in a dirty bathrobe, with pencils pointing through your hair, sitting behind a computer as you wrack your brain for a new great idea. Sure, Lane loves what she does for a living. But as a die-hard romantic, she'd like to meet someone special, so that she can love her career, as well as another living, breathing, human being. So, putting on her thinking cap, Lane comes up with a brilliant idea. She'll get a real job at a professional firm, and write an article about meeting, and falling in love with a professional businessman on the job, in a mere two months. It sounds crazy, but COSMOPOLITAN quickly scoops the idea up, and Lane is back in business.

Lane knows nothing about finances. In fact, the one thing she's skilled at is spending countless amounts of money on glamorous shoes, gowns, and handbags, and then scurrying to scrape together enough money to not only pay off her ever-mounting credit card bills, but her monthly rent, as well. So when she lands a job at a financial firm, she knows that she's out of place. Of course, that doesn't bother her much. After all, she's surrounded by numerous single men who seem quite pleased with her presence. But when she meets the dashing Liam, a British magazine guru who doesn't work in the financial business, Lane's plans for her article go right out the window. Liam is everything that Lane could have ever hoped for, and she plans on being with him forever and ever. But after a few sketchy occurrences, Lane can't help but wonder if Liam is too good to be true. And, if that's the case, she may have just ruined her shot at landing a permanent gig with COSMOPOLITAN.

I fell in love with Daniella Brodsky after reading THE VELVET ROPE DIARIES, so I was eager to delve into another hilarious bout of fiction penned by the author. DIARY OF A WORKING GIRL is what grabbed my eye. Brodsky has combined a bit of the films HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS and NEVER BEEN KISSED, with a bit of Sophie Kinsella's CONFESSIONS OF A SHOPAHOLIC, and created a gem that is riotously humorous, and quite relatable. Lane is a lovable character, whose dreams of finding Prince Charming are romantic and believable; while her non-stop ridiculous conversations with her friends, boss, and even her conquests make her seem younger than her twenty-something years, but provide readers with a good laugh, at the same time. Brodsky gives readers a wonderful peek into the world of a freelance writer, and even provides some insight into the goings-on at a financial firm; while never going overboard, or making the story boring. Littered with descriptions of chic clothes, handsome men, and looming deadlines; Brodsky has woven a delightful tale that keeps you guessing from the first to the very last page. Flashy, fun, and oh-so fashionable!

3.0 out of 5 stars Although I love happy endings, May 26, 2004

I found that I only read to the end because I wanted to read the obvious happy ending. Already stated is the unecessary reference to other authors which displeased me. In addition, the use of the word pregnant was drained, and I didn't end the book with much respect for the Lane. However, I was happy that she found her M&M. Other than that it was sort of weak.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fun, But Seriously Shallow and Unrealistic, June 6, 2004
"Diary of a Working Girl" had a very promising beginning, but after a while things just got ridiculous. The book tells the story of Lane Silverman, a recently-dumped-by-her-boyfriend, twenty-something year-old who lives in New York City, and writes magazine articles for no-name and little known publications. At the beginning of the book, Lane is trying to break into a big-name magazine, but keeps getting rejected. That is, until suddenly she stumbles upon the perfect idea for an article, which is approved by the Editor-in-Chief at Cosmopolitan magazine. The article idea is to explore love in the workplace. Lane must somehow land an office job and a new man within 2 months. And keep a diary about it.

Sounds like a great idea for a story, right? It lays the foundation for an exciting book detailing the struggle of getting and keeping a new job and man, right? Of course it does. However, sadly enough, this is where "Diary of a Working Girl" begins speeding downhill at an alarming rate. For the rest of the book fails to deliver anything solid or realistic, or even interesting. The book also contains an awful lot of speculation and rambling that failed to keep my attention for long.

I found most of the story ridiculous and the main character self-absorbed and shallow. Things were just too good-to-be-true, and I couldn't once sympathize with Lane. I seriously wonder what this book was written for? Where is the suspense? I do admit in the beginning of the book, it appeared the story would be interesting with Lane having trouble thinking of great article ideas and having editors turn them down, but it didn't last long.

Overall I was disappointed, because even though the book is fiction, it should have something realistic and plausible in it. But it doesn't.
