Very Impressed!,

Whatever has lead you here to check out this album whether it be curiosity or just a gut feelin that its gonna be tight, don't stop now! Buy it, serious, you won't be disappointed. Being a 'contemporary gospel' album, it is bound to be compared to the Virtues and the Trinitee 5:7s of this world but it has something that they don't. Lisa McClendon's neo-soul sound is unique and unrivalled by her counterparts whilst still driving home loud and clear the gospel message -listen to "The Invitation" and you'll know what I mean. This is an album which addresses "those issues" that young christians like me need answers to whilst also giving me something to nod my head to... This together with her more recent "Soul Music" are a must have for your collection.

Neo Soul at Its Best,

This album is truly a masterpiece. You can actully listen to this album without skipping. The lyrics are deep, insightful, and full of anointing, truly. This album has caused me to listen to gospel music differently. Lisa avoids irritating Christian cliches and just gets to the heart of the matter, whether it's shacking up with a girl/boyfriend, religious hypocrisy, or dealing with temptation. Girlfriend just has it going on. She's a gifted wordsmith and singer.
All the songs are great, but my favorites are...well, all of them. I especially like the spoken word interludes. They add a nice personal touch and an inside view of Lisa's diary and life, because really, you may find your diary and life in this wonder music. It's just that good.

Fresh Delivery of the Word through Song!,
By Bonnie Davis (Brandywine, MD USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: My Diary Your Life (Audio CD)
All I can say is.....this CD is refreshing! Lisa McClendon delivers the Word through Song in such a way that pierces the heart! As you are listening to the powerful lyrics of this CD you are immediately pulled into a place of worship of the one and only true God and into a place of examining your own soul. The style is hip, groovin', jazzy, sassy, and funky. Lisa McClendon is the "blood bought" version of Alicia Keyes, India Arie, Jill Scott and Lala Hathaway all wrapped in one. Still Alive and Holla make you wanna jump out of your seat and praise the Lord in the dance. The worship is sweet and compelling, drawing you into God's very presence. Every song tells a story! The story of His story is expressed in every line of every song. Those from 15 to 50 would relate to the lyrics and definitely jam to the rhythms and grooves of "My Diary, Your Life". Let this new CD from Lisa McClendon refresh your soul...you won't be disappointed!

A great album from a phenomenal new artist,
By yarden "yarden" (portland, or) - See all my reviews

This is probably the best album I have heard this year. Lisa McClendon's writing, singing, and musicianship are phenomenal. The Christian music market is typically a few years behind the secular music scene, but this album is cutting edge and contemporary to the things that are going on in the secular neo-soul scene. These songs are beautifully performed & produced and have solidly sold-out christian lyrics without being trite or preachy. Instead, McClendon infuses her songs with a very lyrical and poetic quality that make the songs stand out above most of the other gospel/christian soul artists who have released albums this year. There aren't really any other christian musicians to compare Lisa McClendon with, but if you like the sound of Erykah Badu or Angie Stone, you will get into this CD. All the songs on this album are great and worth listening to. If you have heard this CD and like it, pass it along! This CD deserves to be heard by millions.

This cd is worth $20.00 easily. The production, the message [which isn't compromised] and the hip style are to be commended. Can't wait for "Soul Music." Peace, Brian

Super Soulful!,

MS. LISA MCCLENDON's album is so for real. Her smooth and soulful tracks remind me of Jill Scott, Angie Stone and Mary J. Blidge. The only (best) difference is that it's edifying. If you enjoy R&B but are looking for music that will support spiritual revelation growth and rest--Lisa's album will lead you in that direction. Every song invites God's presence. You can even play it in the office without offending. Here's my short review on each track:1. Still Alive - Jesus is still alive! Strong! (remake of stayin' alive) Real smooth worship and praises! Go Girl!

This is Lisa McClendon's freshman cd release and it is a must have! The cd is soulful, catchy, and ministering. She is the Lauryn Hill of Gospel! Her newest cd puts weight on this one as her best, but I would highly recommend adding this to your collection!
