5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, even in cold weather!
I searched for comfortable, safe socks for a diabetic for a long time. These are the first ones that meet my criteria: soft, stay up on my ankles, keep my feet warm but dry, good ventilation, durable, comfortable with no bothersome seams. And it turned out that they are among the least expensive, a bonus. I would have paid much more for usable socks, but I didn't have...

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality Control for Diastar Comfy Feet Diabetic sock
I ordered and received two 3-sock packs. Although labeled identically, the socks in one packet of 3 were of different size than the socks in the other packet of 3. My wife took the smaller set. One of the socks she wore had a defect in the weave. I took the other larger set. Although the socks are loosely woven, the top is tight with no elasticity -- it makes a...

I would have paid much more for usable socks, but I didn't have to.

I had read some reservations about these socks so I was a bit skeptical about getting them; however, I just don't find the problems with the socks, even though I am pretty picky. The only seams are out of the way, and they are nicely cushioned. The seam on these socks is absolutely safe and never bothers me. My wife, who has very, very tender feet, also loves them and cannot see any problems with the seams.

The open-weave ankles surprised me and I was sure I would not be able to use them in the cold winters here. I was really surprised, then, to find that they kept my feet warm at -20 degrees F, in the snow. With regular shoes and pants. Later I wore them in snow boots for 2 hours out there in the cold, and they performed very well. My feet never got wet as they wicked moisture away, like they should.

I have washed several pairs 6-8 times and they show no signs of wear. They don't snag very easily, they haven't pilled, and they haven't shrunk at all! They are just as comfortable as when I first got them.

I sleep in them they are so comfortable and they are so well-ventilated that my feet do not perspire and my feet don't get hot, only comfortable.

I am sold on these socks, so much so that I just ordered 6 more pairs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Soft, Comfortable and Do Not Bind, July 12, 2010

This review is from: Diastar Comfy Feet Diabetic Socks, 3-pack (Health and Beauty)
When I noticed that my elderly father was slicing into the tops of his socks with a scissors, I got the idea that he needed new and different socks. Socks with a lot of stretch at the top. Far more stretch than the usual man's sock.

I checked the stores but they only offered what is called "diabetic" socks in white. Even at his advanced age, my father is not going to wear white socks, unless he is playing tennis, and believe me, that event is highly, highly unlikely. So I began to search for dark diabetic socks, preferably black.

I found two manufacturers that make them. These socks by Diastar and socks by Wigwam Wigwam Men's Diabetic Strider Sock. Not really knowing which to buy, I bought both. The socks by Wigwam are all acrylic. They are ok. They fit well, they do not bind and they do not fall down.

The Diastar socks, however, are better. They are very soft and cushy. They are 90% cotton. They do not bind or sag and they stay up. The top is an innovative mesh-like open weave that is very comfortable. They wash well. They come in Black, Brown, Blue, and of course, white.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Grandpa's Socks, December 14, 2009

So I was trying to find a good present for my Grandpa for his 88th birthday. I asked him what I could get him and he said "Ah, I have everything just tell me you love me." I did of course, but I kept bothering him about a present. He came up with diabetic socks. So I did some looking around on Amazon and got these. At first I only got a 3 pack, but he liked them so much he called me and asked for 6 more pair. When he got them he called and said he had thrown out all his old socks in favor of these. I asked him what it was about them that he liked and he said "When I move my toes they move." So basically they are flexible and are considered a "WIN" as a present.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality Control for Diastar Comfy Feet Diabetic sock, October 19, 2010

I ordered and received two 3-sock packs. Although labeled identically, the socks in one packet of 3 were of different size than the socks in the other packet of 3. My wife took the smaller set. One of the socks she wore had a defect in the weave. I took the other larger set. Although the socks are loosely woven, the top is tight with no elasticity -- it makes a crease in my skin as bad as any other sock. A good diabetic sock? NO Worth the money? NO.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cozy, November 7, 2009

As a neuropathy sufferer (no diabetes, just neuropathy), I even wear these to bed (I can't even bear the breeze from my ceiling fan during the summer). I bought the largest size available, so these are roomy enough; they don't rub on my sensitive skin.

I even wear them on the floors as I travel throughout my house! They are light, but durable.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, January 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Purchased these socks before for my mother. Since she liked them I purchased 6 for her for Christmas. The comfort is not there with these. The tops are very binding and tight. She is a small lady with tiny legs. Her description of these socks is uncomfortable. Also these are sewed differently in the toe of the sock. The lengths of the socks are different. Some go to her ankle while others are knee high. Bad purchase for the money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointed, June 13, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I've purchased six varieties of diabetic socks the last two months from online stores, local pharmacies, brick and mortar shoe stores, etc. These were my least favorite. Also happen to be the cheapest so maybe I'm just getting what I paid for. Overall I found them a too thin and with not enough elastic to stay positioned on my foot. One pair developed a hole after being worn one day. Another developed a large run when it was put on the first time. Part of the problem might be that my foot is at the large end of the size range for the sock so the poorly defined heel didn't fit right. But the socks had a tendency to be pulled off my foot with the slightest pressure, such as taking off a shoe, not enough elastic.

These are not my first diabetic socks, so I have a means for comparison. These are a flimsy, rough, uncomfortable weave. They fall off.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed, February 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am very disappointed with these socks. They are miserably uncomfortable. They are scratchy and there is a HUGE seam on the toe. The bulky seam right on the toes render these socks virtually unwearable. These socks were advertised as being soft and comfortable. Believe me, they are far from soft OR comfortable. I washed them before I tried to wear them to see if they would get softer and they did not. When I was folding them, I discovered one had a big hole in the toe. All in all, this was a horrible purchase. I would definitely NOT recommend them.
