This is the best $30 I spent for this vacation! What fun to just snorkel with a digital camera. I leave my camera in the case almost all the time now, to protect from rain, sand, etc. while at the beach. This video is in Kauai, Hawaii.

I purchased this more than a year ago for a one week vacation. Tested the unit before leaving and it appeared to work fine. My wife and I where ruthless with the camera and the pack. It was placed in the unit and sealed in the morning, used all day while snorkeling, getting taken out constantly for better land based shots then finally the bag was cleaned and dried over night for the next day. After the first 2 days the seam started to break up at the top where the unit rolls up. I was extra carefull when sealing but continued to use the unit. By the last day of the trip water was slowly getting in a few drops at a time. It still worked but I was constantly checking. On the trip back I checked the unit out completely. The edge seals where comming apart, it would not have survived another day without camera damage.
I still loved this product think it worked fantasticly but it only works for 1 vacation then its dumpster material. It did convince me to purchase a $200 canon underwater case for the sd800 for our next vacation. I do not regret buying this. There is no way I would have purchased a more expensive case before using the WP100 for a solid week. Underwater photography is a real blast even if you only snorkel. The only reason not to buy this is if you are ready to get one of the high end hard cases for a couple hundred.

Don't listen to Alexander or W; they're idiots. Probably Alex didn't completely close the hidden ziplock. As for W, I have a Canon SD1000 and, based on his advice, I got the W300 instead of the 100. Big mistake! Now that I have the right one, it fits perfectly! No, the flash will NOT work, and so your pictures will probably be blurry except in clear water in sunshine, but for the price it's great. I wonder if someone makes a water-proof, radio-controlled flash...

I got it for my Hawaii vacation.
It worked well for swallow water snokeling and protecting from the beach sand. Sometimes the side of pictures was dark because of the lens cap. So you need to align your camera and the cap from time to time. I am pretty satisfied in terms of cost. It worked reasonably as what they said, and much cheaper than the original camera manufacture's waterproof case.

This is a great alternative to expensive waterproof housings for digital cameras. I purchased this for a compact digital camera after loosing my hard case (and sony cybershot) on a rafting trip. Not wanting to risk such a big loss again, I bought this soft case in hopes that it would do the job. It keeps the water out well, but the lack of a tight fit between the lens housing and camera occasionally creates a peripheral black shadow on photos an videos. For the cost, you can't beat it.

Met expectations,
This review is from: DicaPac WP100 Small 145 X 95mm Waterproof Cases (Electronics)
I read all the reviews before I bought this item and decided it wasn't worth the risk to submerge it under water at any point, regardless of the "tissue test." That said, I bought it to protect my new camera from sand, rain, etc. on a recent trip to Costa Rica. It added peace of mind when I used the camera and performed just as I hoped. As mentioned in other reviews, be sure to line the lens up before taking any pictures as you'll find a black corner in your pictures from the case otherwise.
All in all, worth the money for what it is, and go in with lowered expectations.

I was worried, but it worked great!,

I purchased the wp100 for my Canon SD790 at the last minute to take on my trip to Cancun. Well, I just got back, and I can honestly say that this did a great job on my snorkeling trip! The camera fit perfectly, and the black ring over the lens only showed up in a couple of pictures out of 60 or so that I took- mainly because the camera shifted slightly in the pack without me noticing. Once I made my adjustment, it was perfect! Yes, the controls are sometimes difficult to maneuver (hence 4 instead of 5 stars), especially zooming, but it doesn't take long to get used to it. This is definitely one of the best purchases I've made in awhile. It will be difficult to know when this DicaPac needs replacing, so I may not use this more than a few times before buying a new one...just to be safe. I don't want a leak to be my signal that it's time to replace. Even if it's only used 2 or 3 times, it's still a great deal and a much better alternative than buying disposable underwater cameras!

I ordered this case as an alternative to the $150 case provided by Canon (almost as much as I paid for the camera itself). For 30 bucks, it was definitely a bargain. I needed it for a trip I was taking, and didn't see the point in purchasing the more expensive version knowing I'd probably only use it once.
I have a Canon Powershot SD750. When I received the case, I did the waterproof test I had seen suggested in one of the product reviews. Worked like a charm. The information slip included with the camera seemed like it was written by a double talker; made absolutely no sense, just random words in no particular order. Didn't really matter, everything was pretty self explanatory, just seemed kinda odd. Some specs on the camera: The case has two openings; 1) obviously where you insert the camera 2) the lens cover unscrews (I suppose to help you position the camera). The water proof function is achieved using two separate areas of velcro and a ziploc enclosure as the final water barrier. The case comes with a strap that is about two feet long from end to end. Getting the camera in and out of the case is a challenge. Don't expect to get it right in one minute, took me about 5 minutes to get it inside and positioned correctly. Mostly because of the camera kinda sticking to the vinyl, and you can't reach your fingers into the narrow case. Once the camera is inside, it is rather difficult to press some of the buttons, especially the smaller function keys on the back. My camera has a switch on top for alternating between video and picture modes. I found it almost impossible to move the switch back and forth while in the case, so I just didn't take videos. Another small issue I ran into... the battery cover on my camera kept sticking to the vinyl and coming open while sliding the camera in, so once I got the camera inside, it wouldn't turn on. Took me a minute to realize what happened. As far as the pictures I took, they did not come out well. It was wet and sunny, so my pictures had A LOT of glare from the sun shining on the oversized lens cover. The lens cover is WAY too big for my camera, but that's what can be expected from a "one size fits all" case. Several of my pictures had the black shadow in the corners from the lens cover, even though I had practiced using it ahead of time. Also, I couldn't use my flash because it was partially covered by the huge lens cover, and just increased the glare on my pictures (the flash reflected off the case onto my camera lens). The case was too big for my camera, which meant that even after all of my positioning, the camera would slide around inside while I was trying to take pictures. All in all, I got what I paid for, my camera was protected from the elements, and I got about two or three good shots out of 10. For a one time use, it served its purpose. If you need to be able to take quality pics for an important occassion, buy the disposable waterproof cameras, or opt for the expensive case.

It works,
This review is from: DicaPac WP100 Small 145 X 95mm Waterproof Cases (Electronics)
It works, and my canon sd1000 is small enough that it even floats.
It makes me feel much better about taking my camera to the lake (though for the cost of the case I have to wonder if I wouldn't have been better off buying a cheap camera and putting it in a zip-lock bag). Sealing mechanism is a single zip-lock style zipper at the end of a flap. The flap gets rolled up and covered by a larger flap that closes with velcro. I would feel a little better about the case if the manufacturer had employed a double-zipper design, but the single-zipper design gets the job done. The water in most Oklahoma lakes is not clear enough to make taking underwater photos a possibility, though I think I would be comfortable taking my camera 5-10 feet under water in this waterproof case. |
