As a college student studying Spanish at an advanced level, I'm always looking out for the perfect Spanish dictionary. This is not a dictionary for beginners--it is written for native speakers and has NO English. However, if you are fairly proficient (no need to be fluent) this is a *great* dictionary. It is especially useful for reading literature and also for writing, especially when you need to find a synonym for an overly-used word but don't want to risk using a thesaurus and choosing an imprecise word. Other reasons I like it: it uses simple language and only uses a few easy-to-guess abbreviations, and the type doesn't require a magnifying glass to read. The only drawback: it doesn't include a lot of regional words of colloquialisms. However, this can be easily overcome by combining its use with a good Spanish-English dictionary, and it is actually helpful when writing a paper because you won't accidentally use a Cuban colloquialism which your Peruvian instructor has never heard before.
