This review is from: Diccionario de español para extranjeros. Con el espanñl que se habla hoy en España y en América Latina (Spanish Edition) (Hardcover)
The English title given this superb dictionary (presumably by the USA distributor) is somewhat inadequate. The title actually translates as a Dictionary of Spanish for Foreigners. In other words, non-Hispanic people like me. When you become reasonably fluent in a language like Spanish, it's a good idea to stop using an English-Spanish dictionary and use a Spanish-Spanish dictionary instead. So I set out to buy such a book, and -- praise be! -- I found this one listed at Amazon. It's a Spanish dictionary especially geared for the needs of foreigners. There are only three words of English in the entire book: "Printed in Spain". Everything else is in Spanish, but in clear, concise, easy-to-interpret Spanish where you can pick up new words (and brush up your skills with old ones) simply by reading definitions. There are also of course sections on Irregular Verbs, plus a delightful interlude especially geared for travelers in which words and cartoons make tourism easy. This definitely rates as the number one dictionary of its kind. I wish it had been available when I was in Mexico back in 2003-4, researching my novel MEXICAN AUTUMN.
