Editorial Reviews

Review

The Dice Stacking Book will teach you how to stack dice, clearly, simply, and very thoroughly. Each move in dice stacking is stripped to its essentials and then divided into easy steps. Learn the steps and you've got the trick. After the basics, the real fun starts: the quick stack, quicker stack, two by two, double and triple stacks, numbers, aerial moves, and decapitations. Then odd-sized dice, coin sandwiches, and stacking games. Did I leave anything out? Only about half. The Dice Stacking Book is a good deal more than the sum of its predecessors on the subject, and no dice stacker can afford to be without it. This book is also literate, funny, and thoroughly researched. If there is one flaw in it, it is the use of a beautiful model who smiles out at you from every other page, scattering all thoughts of dice. Highly recommended. (Eric Bagai, "JUGGLE").

Anyone who knows Todd Strong knows that when he gets an idea into his head, he keeps at it until he's discovered everything there is to know about the subject, and has mastered most of the tricks. His latest book for fans of games involving manual dexterity is out. Dice stacking is destined to be the latest craze. The idea is to build stacks of dice in various patterns, using only the dice shaker - a single stack, two adjacent stacks, and lots more. Todd explains the techniques step by step, illustrating each stage of the movement with photos. His descriptions are not only clear and easy to follow, but are also written in an amusing style. Don't miss the chapter on the history of the game. The book is rounded out by tips on how to combine dice stacking with juggling, magic, and suggestions for dice stacking games. -- Gabi Keast, "Kaskade"

5.0 out of 5 stars A great idea to play with, December 4, 2000
This review is from: The Dice Stacking Book (Paperback)
Todd's book is thorough, well written, and informative. It does a fine job of explaining how to use a cup to scoop up four dice, only to pull the cup away and have them appear nicely stacked. I was able to get my first stacks after just a couple tries.

If there's anything to complain about to this book, it's that the idea is somewhat limited... there's not that many ways you can stack the dice differently, and even the different ways seem rather similar. But if The Dice Stacking Book is a one-trick pony, it certainly is a very nice one trick! If you're a magician looking for a very slick close-up illusion, or if you're the kind of person who enjoys party tricks, then you should definately check out Todd's latest book.
