1.0 out of 5 stars No Access Code February 16, 2013
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I wasted my money purchasing this book!!! I ordered this new book and it did not come with the access code for the Wiley program. It only came with some other unrelated code. I had to purchase a code (which came with a book ) to be able to access my course. I ended up spending so much money.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not very well structured. July 7, 2012
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I had planned on keeping this text after my introductory Spanish course was finished so I could continue learning, but I found it very difficult to learn anything from this book. There's not much structure to the material presented, and it feels disjointed most of the time - it seems like the authors just deviated from the natural progression of earning a language for the sake of being different. I own a set of Michel Thomas CD's, and I feel like I learned much, much more about the Spanish language from those than I ever could from this book.

While I would never review a Spanish book out of personal leisure, I found this required Spanish textbook to be very intuitively set up, with excellent exercises within each chapter as well as the added online assignments. While most students would cringe at the thought of having online homework assignments due on a regular basis, Wiley's "Wiley Plus" online textbook, expanded readings and assignments really allow the material to stay fresh in your mind.

The best thing about utilizing this textbook is that the online assignments include "lab" activities, which students would typically be required to do on their own recorded time in a computer lab on campus. While the Wiley code is non-transferable and expensive (and destructive of the book's value), it is certainly a worthy educational asset.

I have to say I actually enjoyed using this textbook, despite its resale value being utterly pitiful (which is my reasoning for deducting one star) and it allowed my experience in Spanish 101 and 102 to be much more pleasant than it would have been otherwise.

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware! May 13, 2014

Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Beware! This book does NOT come with the access code! I purchased it new because I had to have the code, but found that it was ripped out. I called customer service and explained that I need a book with a code inside and was told that they would make sure the replacement had the code; however, when it arrived, the code was also ripped out of it. I called again and, again, explained the problem and was told that the book apparently doesn't come with the code and I would have to purchase it separately. You'd think that a book that costs so much would come with the necessary accessories included. It's a shame that students get fleeced like that.
