From School Library Journal
Gr 3-6-Andrews starts with her subject's early years in Nebraska and ends with his inauguration in January 2001. Readers follow Cheney as he grew up, married his high school sweetheart, began working in Washington, became President Ford's chief of staff, became a congressman and then Secretary of Defense under George Bush Senior, his years at Halliburton, and then the run for vice president. The writing is serviceable at best, but in some instances, the need to explain a concept (public service) gets lost in a paragraph talking about what Cheney was doing. There are also some grammatical and typographical errors. Almost the same information can be found in encyclopedias or biographical dictionaries. Coverage of the past year (the run for the White House, the Florida controversy, etc.) is available on the Internet and in periodicals and newspapers. Unless you really need background in book format, save your money.
