with Dick Davey,
Stanford University Assistant Coach, former Santa Clara University Head Coach,
4X WCC Coach of the Year
Over the years, Coach Davey's Santa Clara teams developed a reputation as giant killers in the NCAA tournament. In this DVD, Davey puts together an excellent progression of drills and techniques that will help your post players get open, catch the ball, check the defense, and create scoring opportunities. Davey's style for developing efficient, scoring post players begins with individual attention to footwork and clearly defined drills. From hand position to stance and balance, Davey's teaching in each drill is specific to the desired result of scoring baskets in the paint. Davey uses a series of six passing and catching drills as prerequisites for being effective on the block. He teaches a five-step system for catching the ball and checking the defense before making moves. Two techniques, walk away and circle, teach post players to get open against aggressive defenders. That leads to nine scoring moves, which he describes and illustrates in detail, each of which brings a different challenge to the defender. Players of all ages can learn and use these moves to consistently be a threat in the paint.
