Book Description

September 1, 2006
When Richard, a divorced but desirable vet from Tasmania, proposes to Sarah, an English Rose, she decides to accept and start a whole new life with him down under. The only problem is, though, that days before the wedding Sarah falls in love with Richard's best man, Tom, who's living with a much older woman. Meanwhile, Bronte, Richard's first wife, a Features Editor on a woman's magazine in Sydney is trying to cope with the news that her ex is marrying again. And Harry, Richard's younger brother, who has never got over his obsession with Blondie, is spending all his time chasing after the wrong women. Tom, Dick and Debbie Harry is a witty and, at times, hilarious contemporary novel about weddings, relationships, finding the right partner, shenanigans amongst friends and Australian eccentricity.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

In this second novel by Adams, Sarah moves from London to the Tasmanian bush to marry Richard (Dick) after only a few months of dating, even though she's got a huge crush on Richard's best friend, Tom. Dick's new marriage coincides with the 40th birthday of his first wife, Bronte, who lives in Sydney, causing her to question the meaning of her life. Meanwhile, Richard's younger brother, Harry, is trying to come to terms with his own life while also promoting his Debbie Harry tribute band. Adams is an astrologer, and some otherworldly events take place in the book, as when Bronte gets a visit from the spirit world in the form of her dead horse, Angel. Quirky and fun, the story keeps readers guessing about who will end up with whom in the end. Adams's first novel, Single White E-Mail, was a best seller in both Australia, where she lives, and the United Kingdom, where she was born. This is her first novel to be published in the United States. Recommended for all public libraries. Karen Core, Enoch Pratt Free Lib., Baltimore

How can you not love the name of this book? I mean -- come on. "Tom Dick and Debbie Harry" - how clever is that? I give Jessica Adams a big thumbs up on this one. I loved her previous work - "Single White E-Mail" and I was really happy to get a copy of this her new book. This hilarious romp is set within the structure of a wedding and that leads to some smart and sexy scenes. I found it really original and different. I haven't read anything else like it - and I have read a LOT of english/australian/american books written by young women. So, I give it high praise for originality.

My only complaint is the sometimes disjointed character development - I wanted more, and found some characters lacking. Other than that ------- highly recommended.

Cheers!
