4.0 out of 5 stars Four stars because this is a true classic but this set sucks
Why can't the people responsible for putting these out put out beeter episodes, I mean the real classic ones. This show had several: the ghost in the cabin one, or the space-walnut one, or the one where Laura keeps opening Rob's mail. The one where Laura tells Alan Brady's secret on t.v. or the best, in my opinion, where Laura and Millie spend a scary night alone.

1.0 out of 5 stars "Make Room for Dick Van Dyke"
There is very little to criticize about any of the classic episodes of the "Dick Van Dyke" show, and the episodes represented here are no exception. There is very little to criticize about any of the classic episodes of the "Dick Van Dyke" show, and the episodes represented here are no exception. However, out of 10 episodes on 5 tapes, only 6 are Dick Van Dyke's. The fourremaining are episodes of "Make Room for Daddy". This is not to say that the classic Danny Thomas shows are not enjoyable; merely that they don't belong on what is advertised as a "Dick Van Dyke Show" collection. In addition, the sound and picture quality of the episodes (both shows) leave much to be desired. If you're a fan of both shows and don't mind the poor quality of the recordings, then you might find this collection acceptable, but my guess is that you'd be better off taping them from conventional television reruns.

1.0 out of 5 stars Misleading Content, December 16, 1999

The title of the set is "The Dick Van Dyke Show", but 4 of the 10 episodes aren't from the Dick Van Dyke show. There are only two episodes per tape (rather skimpy content) and on tapes 2 through 5, one is from Dick Van Dyke, the other's from "Make Room for Daddy" with Danny Thomas. With 5 tapes in the set (the only information available), I sort of assumed 15 or 20 episodes and certainly didn't expect some other show. This is not a recommended buy if you really want a significant portion of Dick Van Dyke episodes.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Dick Van Dyke Show Fan, April 6, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Dick Van Dyke Show [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This set includes some good episodes: The Night the Roof Fell In, Bank Book 6565696, Hustling the Hustler, Give Me Your Walls, A Man's Teeth are Not His Own, and Never Name A Duck. The reason I rated it as only three stars is because although there are 5 videos in this set, there are only 6 episodes of The Dick Van Dyke Show. There are also 4 episodes of a show with Danny Thomas called Life With Danny. I did not find that show very amusing, and I'm disappointed that there are almost as many of those shows as there are of The Dick Van Dyke Show, which is what I bought the set for.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected, June 18, 2001
By A Customer

I agree with the previous reviewer. Had I known that two fifths of the set was made up of episodes of The Danny Thomas Show, I would have thought twice about it. Although in my opinion, there's no such thing as a bad episode of The Dick Van Dyke Show, this set did not contain any of the episodes I was hoping it would. For those of you who, like me, don't know the shows by their titles, here's the show description from the back of the tapes for each of the Dick Van Dyke shows in the package:

---Man's Teeth Are Not His Own: Rob breaks a tooth while Jerry, his friend and dentist is away. A hilarious situation evolves when Rob tries to hide his "disloyalty" to a friend, and keep Jerry from discovering the truth. ---Show Me Your Walls: After Rob ruins a living room wall with a marker he and Laura hire an excentric painter to repair the damage. ---Hustling the Hustler: Buddy's brother Blackie, an old time hustler, shows up unexpectedly and tries to convice him that he has turned over a new leaf. ---The Night the Roof Fell In: Rob and Laura each recall the disputes of the night before, in their own hilarious way. ---Bankbook 6565696: The mystery begins when Rob finds Laura's secret bankbook. ---Never Name a Duck: Rob brings home two baby ducks. As "Stanley", the surviving duck grows, the hilarious incidents begin. If you're wondering about the Danny Thomas episodes, they're Danny's Birthday, Children's Governess, First Allowance, and Danny Goes on USO Tour.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected either, October 3, 2001
By A Customer

So disappointed to find only half of the videos were devoted to the Dick Van Dyke Show and the other half to the Danny Thomas Show. The quality of the duped videos proved to be bootleg quality -- very garbled sound and blurry video. I would NOT recommend this set!

5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest Television classics, December 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Dick Van Dyke Show [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Few shows are true classics. The Dick Van Dyke show is one of them. The magic and laughter shared over 30 years ago by these great comedians of their time is brought back to the fans of the show in these tapes
