4.0 out of 5 stars Parts greater than the sum thereof.
I will go one step further than the other reviews. I will say that this disk IS better than ATTAK. I had always assumed for some reason that my loyalties lay with Sascha K.(after the big breakup), following him from KMFDM to MDFMK and back, but after hearing Slick Idiot, I had an epiphany and have to say that the compelling element that ran through the old KMFDM, must...

These 2 guys are just awsome in KMFDM but I think were just a part of the greater good. Yes I miss their influences and dont belive that KMFDM will never be as good. Thats not saying that the two of them on a solo adventure would be as good if not better than where they came from. NO!!! This is good kraut rock, heavy guitars and good electronic music. I will go one step further than the other reviews. I will say that this disk IS better than ATTAK. I had always assumed for some reason that my loyalties lay with Sascha K.(after the big breakup), following him from KMFDM to MDFMK and back, but after hearing Slick Idiot, I had an epiphany and have to say that the compelling element that ran through the old KMFDM, must have come from En Esch. KMFDM and MDFMK, while always kickin' ass, always left me wanting. The architecture of each song was always a great thrashing lick coupled with absolute and disruptive choad. Slick Idiot's songs are more homogenous in their creativity and construction. There are only a few songs in this world that I would say have a feeling of completeness - as in nothing that I hear and say "Man, I could have done without that!!" Slick Idiot has several of these included in this great Industrial offering.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like KMFDM, buy Slick Idiot, November 20, 2002

I was skeptical about buying an album made solely by the 'throwaway' members of KMFDM, but my skepticism proved to be unwarranted. En Esch and Guenter Schulz put together a classic with DickNity. It not only has great songs like Lazy and Make Me Believe, but it's one of those rare albums that's quite solid, and much more enjoyable as a whole, with absolutely no filler. It never gets repetitive. I might even go so far as to say that DickNity is actually better than Attak. A must have for industrial fans.

Thats not saying that the two of them on a solo adventure would be as good if not better than where they came from. NO!!! This is good kraut rock, heavy guitars and good electronic music. Butthe lyrics and singing are flat and boring. I get tired of this cd about .75% of the way through. There are a couple real good songs but the rest is just power chords and pulse beats.
Give it a listen but dont expect too much -- is is just 2 people writing this stuff.

3.0 out of 5 stars What ATTAK Should Have Sounded Like, October 11, 2002

DickNity V.2.0 is what the last KMFDM album should of sounded like. En Esch and Gunter produced this album on their own in a small town in BC, 6 hours drive from Vancouver and 9 from KMFDM headquaters in Seattle. This album shows grit and intelligence. The meshing of soundscapes and fusion of dub, hip-hop and regge shows how Industrial sucks everythign up and spits it out with bone crushing throbbing beats that will keep the swooning Goth to the stomping Rivethead happy.

KMDFM lost a lot when it lost these two.

V.1 of this cd was only available by mail order directy from them. The only difference is V.2 is enhanced and have additional tracks.

4.0 out of 5 stars KMFDM is dead. Long live Slick Idiot!, July 31, 2001
This review is from: DickNity (Audio CD)
Slick Idiot's DickNity has the same sort of sound sensibilities you'd expect from an early KMFDM release. Think "Juke Joint Jezebel" era tunes and you're about there. Almost all the elements are in place: trademark female backing vox, steady 4/4 driving rhythms, crunchy guitar work, En Esch's growling vox, and Guenter Schulz's staccato programming. The only real difference I hear in the overall sound is the lack of self-branding lyrics. Gone are the "KMFDM [stinks]/rules/you-fill-in-the-blank" chants, and in their stead are sardonic, meaningful lyrics.

It's when you listen to specific tracks that you can hear the changes. The typically heavy metal style vocal progressions of En Esch in "I Feel Fine" mark one of these changes.

The biggest change of styles, however, is the use of scratches and rapping in "Lazy." DJ RoCKSTeADY adds a hiphoppy turntable element, and Big B adds a different kind of vox altogether. The results are more listenable than Front Line Assembly's foray into rap on "Millenium."

KMFDM seemed to be an uneasy alliance of several talented artists, especially Sascha Konietzko and En Esch. When they broke up, I was curious to hear what both the Sascha Konietzko and Tim Skold faction and the En Esch and Gunter Schutz faction would come up with when they no longer had to compromise. Konietzko's half of the band, now MDFMK, put out an overall good album with some great songs and a lot of filler. This album by Slick Idiot, representing the Esch half, is a great album with more consistent quality.
While MDFMK is more rockish than KMFDM, Slick Idiot is more electronic, although they still fall into industrial/EBM rather than a straight electronic band like Underworld. The album gets off to a great start with the powerful sound of It Won't Do. Lazy is a clear entry into new territory, with some rap from Big B. I didn't like this song as much as some other reviewers, but that may be more from the fact that I hate rap more than any deficiency in the song. Xcess is perhaps my favorite song on the album, with a good mix of guitar and synthesizers. I loved the female vocal on "Forgive Me", but I'm not sure I'd play it at work. Make Me Believe and Idiot are also very strong. If you like KMFDM, especially their more electronic songs, you will definitely like this album. I hope we have not seen the last of Slick Idiot.

4.0 out of 5 stars Slick Idiot, an impressive follow up to KMFDM, September 8, 2001

Ex-KMFDM members En Esch and Gunter Schulz have created a new band that resembles KMFDM more than MDFMK did. Which in my opinion, is a very good thing. It sounds a lot like XTORT and ANGST, classic KMFDM. En Esch does most of the vocals except for women doing back-up, a few words from Gunter, and even some guy rapping. I wasn't too crazy about the rapping but the chorus of the song ( titled "lazy" ) saves it.I am extremely happy with this album and I find myself thinking that it's just another KMFDM record. Every song on this CD is awesome. If you like KMFDM, you will love Slick Idiot.

4.0 out of 5 stars beats that blast, August 8, 2001

Keeping in mind that kmfdm broke up over a disagreement with the bands future, this is the sway that one might think of as flipping the bird to comprimise. Although the music may not have been as hard as the past(when many of the lyrics are about sex and the escapism involved with love, it just might not be as appropriate) The beats have euphoria induced climbs alomg with en esch's lawnmower barry white vox that make your spine do the wave. The album sounds great all the way through and the voices of children in one song following rap verses top it off really well. Gunter Schulz has not lost his touch with that guitar of his either. The general overtone of the whole album can be said as this: the content is nothing too rocket science. But the ceativity pounds away any chance of someone saying that's a bad thing. the minimal instrumentation is topped off with magnificent electric sounds that in most cases can only be sid as climactc. The reason it's four stars in my book is that I've heard enesch's previous solo effort, added it is much more eclectic. the songs are more defined along the context of the songs themselves. I have to admit i would've liked to see a little more of that. BUt this album still wrakes through your ears with grace, more so if your looking for consistency.

This album is everything you've ever wanted from Industrial music. En Esch and Guenter have made a plain amazing album! I didn't even buy it here! I bought it off of En Esch himself in Toronto and got it personally signed. BUY THIS ALBUM!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Better than the Best...Harder than the Rest!", April 29, 2001

I ordered the Slick Idiot CD totally based on the fact that the members of the band (En Esch & Guenter Shulz) were former members of KMFDM. I must say, Slick Idiot holds its own completely independent of a KMFDM past. It's heavy, it's dance, it's EBM, it's everything rolled into 1 perfect package. the 1st track, "It Won't Do", hooks you right in with it's infectious beats and flawless guitar playing. En Esch's vocals enter your mind and take you to a place you've only dreamed of. Sensual, yet forceful, but completely perfect. Moving on you'll hit "Merci Boucoup", which in my opinion, is the best track on the album. The track just flows...Esch's vocals w/female backing vocals all layered on top of the exquisite programming of Guenter Shulz. Afterwards, you'll hit the tracks "Make Me Believe", "Get Down, Give In (the Sex Song)", and "Blast" which are all spectacular dance/industrial tracks (dance/industrial for a lack of a better definition). The album closes with "Naomi", which i feel is almost a reprise to "It Won't Do", and Slick Idiot couldn't have made the album come to a close in a better way. To whoever is reading this, you NEED to buy this album! You won't be sorry!
