Almost like being there, January 6, 1999

This show is so typical of the Dead 80's experience, the sound starts out a little ruffled Jerry mumbles the lyrics through Alabama and the band and sound techs kind of feel thier way through the first few songs, then it picks up and starts to roll. The first set continues on a high and goes right into an amazing second set. The mix is great being able to pick up all the players is nice, it seems that the more polished live albums leave Weir out of the loop, here you can really pick up the rythem he lays down for Jerry's leads. It's nice to have a whole bootleg show without worrying about wearing out the tape and the famous between song breaks edited.

The first set is great-sometimes the quality is a little hairy. But it is truly cd 2 which stands above them all.Scarlet>Fire>Estimated>Eyes all told this sequence lasts just over 45 minutes.A rarity for Dick's Picks because it is from the 80's=some nice Brent action

Great Moments but Overall a Mediocre Pick, December 29, 2003
This review is from: Dick's Picks, Vol. 6: Hartford Civic Center, Hartford, CT, 10/14/83 (Audio CD)
I'm generally a second set guy, and the best of this CD is all on the first disc. In particular, the lead guitar work on "They Love Each Other" is some of Garcia's very best. After a very ragged "Alabama Getaway," the first set is really exceptional. The second disc is mediocre at best, and I disagree with the other reviewers who claim that this is one of the better Scarlett/Fires. I enjoy listening to this pick on occasion, but it certainly does not rise to the top of my list where I would put DP3, DP8 and DP18.
