This dictionary is excellent for all levels of Hebrew speakers. It includes special sections for words to use at the restaurant, the doctor, the movie theater etc. Also has special sections teaching the user how to conjugate Hebrew words. The words are translated clearly and used in a sentence. A must have for any Hebrew speaker!

Rav Milon is very easy to use, I have been using Alkalay for the past 20 years and the simplicity of Rav Milon in comparison is amazing. You can look up a word in the English section and it gives you the word right there and the page number if you need more details. On the Hebrew side I like that it gives you examples in Hebrew and shows proper verb conjugations. Still can't find the word for gorilla but it's a great dictionary!!

This dictionary is great both for beginners and more advanced students. I have used it for the past 5 years and absolutely love it! I prefer Rav Milon to Alcalay or Evan Shoshan, or any other Hebrew dictionary. Rav Milon is simply the best!

This is a big, costly dictionary.

I am a native English speaker taking adult Hebrew classes at my temple, so everything I report should be filtered through that prism.

I have two beefs with this "Rav Milon.":

1) I bought another Rav Milon (which is basically a generic Hebrew term meaning "Big Dictionary") when I was auditing a college course at GWU for undergraduates taking Hebrew for credit. This course was taught by Israelis, and thus they set out the required texts for the course. Over the years I lost my old Rav Milon. I loved that one. One of the most interesting sections of the old one was a slim list of words which were cognates in all of Hebrew, English and Yiddish. One example of such an entry was "mazel tov."

The book under review is not as good as my old Rav Milon. Also the old book was hardback and the book under review is a paperback. This is especially an important feature in a reference book which will get a lot of repeated use.

2) This book has a Hebrew-English dictionary, an English-Hebrew dictionary, and remarkably, a Hebrew-Hebrew dictionary. So it is a great learning tool for the advanced student. It is not such a good tool for the intermediate learner such as myself. It is made by Israelis, and is really designed for native Hebrew speakers to learn English. So the English in it is not so great.

Finally, factor in the high price tag, and be prepared to return it if it doesn't meet your expectations.

Out of all the Hebrew dictionaries I have tried, Multi Dictionary Bilingual Learners Dictionary Hebrew-Hebrew-English English-Hebrew (Multilingual Edition) is the perfect LEARNER'S DICTIONARY. If your purpose is the study of the language, and your goal - mastery of it, this is the dictionary for you. It provides not only English translations of Hebrew words, but also simple definitions in Hebrew, plus usage examples, plus set expressions. Every lookup turns into a learning experience (most other dictionaries just leave you with an English "equivalent", if there even is such a thing). A must-buy, if you aspire to converse with Israelis or to read Hebrew books and newspapers.

This is THEE dictionary to get if you are a student of hebrew. Uses words in context, shows other ways of using the word, a really friendly resource.

"Rav-Milon" may well be the best comprehensive dictionary for learners of Hebrew that is currently available. It has several unique features that distinguish it from others. In the main part, entries are listed by their modern, 'unpointed' spelling; verbs in third person past tense. For every entry, it offers (1) spelling without vowel marks and with full vocalization (i.e., with nikkudot and accents in case of unusual stress) and indication of word type; (2) definition in Hebrew; (3) usage examples in Hebrew; (4) conjugation or declination patterns, other forms, root form and binyan; (5) related meanings, if any; (6) English translation.

In its appendices, this dictionary features a concise English-Hebrew dictionary with page references to the main part; several useful lists like, e.g., foreign words common to Hebrew and English, verbs listed by infinitive with English translation, holidays and customs, medical terms, language functions for interpersonal communication, verb tables, word lists by subject and more.

There are only two negative issues: the high price and the terrible, sloppy binding - once you start seriously using it, it will start falling apart on you. That is a shame for a wonderful book like this one; it would have deserved Smyth sewn binding. I'm nevertheless giving it five stars because there is nothing even remotely like it.

This is the best Hebrew-English dictionary that I've been able to find. The Oxford dictionary is also pretty good. This one is the best because it contains examples sentences for every defined word, and overall it contains very little English. This is very important for the learner trying to become fluent in Hebrew.

This dictionary is a good functional resource that will help anyone improve their Hebrew by giving the meaning of the word, similar words or statements, the plural form, as well as and example of the word. There is even a good section in the book for commonly used phrases for different situations and places. The only thing that the buyer must know that this dictionary does not cover a large expansive set of words. What I mean is that you may not find certain words you are looking for in this book so may need to use this book on conjunction with a straight forward dictionary. I highly recommend this dictionary for the intermediate to advanced Hebrew student.

This dictionary provides the opportunity to find the meaning of Hebrew words, explained in simple Hebrew so the reader can stil "think in Hebrew" rather than switching to English. The sentence examples are so engaging I found I was reading the dictionary and learning so much more than a simple translation would have allowed. The lists of words grouped by topic were also useful and current.
