Rev. Daigle's accomplishment in compiling this dictionary of the Cajun language can not be underestimated. The dictionary is easy to use and essential to learning Cajun French. Lovers of Cajun music will find the dictionary very useful for researching lyrics.

I have found this dictionary to be a very valuable resource as I plot my way to learning to correctly write Louisiana French. One think I will mention is that a lot of words you would expect to be part of the dicionary are not there such as the correct way to say Louisianians in Cajun. I can only assume that the authors overlooked it simply by thinking that everyone already knew what that was.

Monsignor Diagle did a remarkable job writing and publishing the only Cajun English dictionary I have ever read. The insightful anecdotes and history add a rich and fantastic view of a vanishing culture.

I'm starting to learn Cajun french and find this dictionary extremely helpful. I've also received the Dictionary of Louisiana French which I like but not as much as this dictionary by Rev. Jules O. Daigle. Daigle's dictionary is much easier to handle due to it's size and quicker to reference. I would suggest this dictionary to be bought along with the Cajun Self-Taught book and CD's because you can get them at a better price together, however, the dictionary alone is a valuable asset to have. Please understand that I'm not trying to convey any negative sentiment regarding the Dictionary of Louisiana French. It has a wealth of information, more so than this dictionary, but I use it when I can't find what I'm looking for in Daigle's dictionary due to the ease of quick reference in his book along with the fact that I can take his dictionary anywhere due to it's size.
