Good dictionary but more specific definitions. For an earth scientist in the making, I would recommend the Oxford Dictionary of Earth Sciences.

This dictionary is not in the Kindle Dictionary Format. Looking up words is, therefore, relatively slow and tedious and it can not be your default Kindle dictionary.

I was a bit bummed to see the Glossary of Geology was not available in kindle format, but I hope this will do the job. As an undergraduate, I am happy to have this to look up new terms I come across when exploring literature. I've only used it a few time, but the words I searched for came up.

My only gripe (as noted in other reviews) is the book doesn't seem to be in kindle format. Most often, I will search for a work using the magnifying lens and then several definitions will pop up. I suppose these are listed in order or relevance, as the first result seems to be the common definition, however, this is not clearly indicated. Perhaps it is helpful to show a myriad of results...The searching is a bit slow as it gathers the related definitions. If you have a physical dictionary of geology near-by, this may be quicker, though as a student, keeping my load light is essential.

Bottom-line is I am happy with the purchase, albeit my opinion is that it is a little over priced. I would pay a similar amount for a more functional Glossary of Geology. Tell them to publish one!!!Glossary of Geology, 5th Edition

I bought this book because geology has a language all of its own and I was having a hard time grasping the terminology. Geology is very descriptive and this dictionary does not have all the descriptive terms in it, which was really surprising. I will need to find another geology dictionary to make up where this one fails. It's a small paperback, so my expectations were a lot more than what a small book could provide.

My boss wanted books that gave definitions and explanations for terms and processes used in oil and gas exploration and extraction and has loved this book for reference.

Excellent book, good definitions, but wish it also included pronunciation guide for each word.

The is a must for anyone reading geological work. Rarely are words not to be found and in those instances the words have provincial usage. Despite plain English being a powerful means of expression geologists have developed an incredible lexicon of words some of which are unnecessary. Like lawyers and molecular biologists, this is a mechanism for one-upsmanship. Really out of place.

As an informed and enthusiastic student of geology and mineralogy, I find the book an essential crutch.
