Anything published by Weatherhill or Tuttle on Japan is well worth buying. Originally published in 1976 and republished in 1980, the book is a compilation of Japanese artists of painting,sculpture,ceramics,prints and lacquer who were born before 1900,or if born later,who died before1972. The entries for each artist try to give the established name in English and Kanji, alternate names,dates, a very brief biography and a bibliographic reference.This book is for the serious enthusiast of Japanese artists of the past.It has been thirty years since it was published, so each year it will be increasingly harder to obtain a copy.
