5.0 out of 5 stars Useful reference for real estate agents, students, & others!, January 26, 2001
A book every Realtor® should own!

Having nearly 35 years of experience as a Realtor®, I believed that I was familiar with most real estate terminology. I discovered that while my belief was mostly correct, I did indeed expand my vocabulary and knowledge with this well done dictionary. I particularly enjoyed the clear, concise definitions, and that abbreviations were included as well as cross referencing of related terms.

Enhancing the information offered in the alphabetical portion of the dictionary is a section containing (1) The Anatomy of a House, an illustration of a two-story residential dwelling with 60 items identified; (2) a useful diagram that shows all forms of ownership; (3) a list of the U.S. states and the concurrent forms of ownership in each; (4) a most surprising diagram of the possible rights and interests in land; (5) explanation of how to calculate a mortgage payment using any of four calculators commonly used by Realtors; (6) a monthly payment matrix for a 30-year mortgage, showing intrest rates from 5% (will we ever see those again?) to 13.5%; (7) cost per $1000 borrowed on a fully amortized 30-year loan with equal monthly payments; (8) an excellent list of Web sites for real estate news, Associations related to the real estate industry, real estate finance, education, and government sites, etc. My compliments to the authors--Well Done!

Shirley Commons Long is recipient of the Year 2000 California Association of Realtors® Distinguished Realtor® of the Year Award as well as the Orange County Association of Realtors® Year 2000 Realtor® of the Year Award.

I have been scanning it and love the print size and short, concise and easy to understand definitions. This is a perfect tool for anyone buying a house. I wish I would have had it when we bought our house and when we refinanced.
