A VERY HELPFUL PRO-EVOLUTION RESOURCE ON THE CREATION/EVOLUTION ISSUE, July 2, 2010
This review is from: Dictionary of Science & Creationism (Hardcover)
Ronald Ecker is a librarian who has written such other books as
And Adam Knew Eve: A Dictionary of Sex in the Bible.
In his Forward to this 1990 book, justly famous science writer and skeptic Martin Gardner (e.g.,
Fads and Fallacies in the Name of Science (Popular Science),
Did Adam and Eve Have Navels?: Debunking Pseudoscience) aptly states, "This book ... is the first to be organized as a dictionary to make it easy to look up information on specific topics. If, for instance, you want to know how creationists distort the simple laws of thermodynamics, you don't have to consult scattered pages cited in the index. Just turn to the entry on thermodynamics." (Gardner also adds, "Henry Morris and Duane Gish, the two creationists most often cited in this book, are today's equivalents of the willfully ignorant Christians of past ages who, like Martin Luther, insisted that the earth is flat.")
Ecker's book begins with topics such as "Abiogenesis" and "Abrupt Appearance," continues into "Flood, Noah's" and "Fossil Record," and ends with topics such as "Vestigial Organ" and "World View."
The book is filled with interesting facts, such as (in the article on "Institute for Creation Research") that "Biologist Kenneth S. Saladin has debated Gish twice and reports that Gish on three occasions has publicly denied that the ICR sponsors expeditions to Mount Ararat to look for Noah's Ark").
He counters the "Evolution isn't scientific, because it isn't falsifiable" argument as he points out (in the long article on "Evolution") that "Any number of conceivable fossil discoveries---a fossilized man, for example, in Silurian rock---would show evolutionary theory to be false."

Martins better works, June 10, 2000
This review is from: Dictionary of Science & Creationism (Hardcover)
Martin Gardner is a provocative writer whose writings do not please people who believe in esp and such things. His views on creationism are instructive nad require to be carefully studied by people who still oppose scientific evolutionism. This book is one of his better works and is essentially a must to read for all those who love Martin's works
