For those who have always wanted to say things like "Mi madre es una gallina" ("My mother is a hen") or "Los zorrillos huelen mal" ("Skunks smell bad"), this book is the answer to your dreams! After all, who wouldn't want to learn Spanish from the Cat in the Hat? From "The cat runs AHEAD--El gato corre ADELANTE" to "Galloping ZEBRAS--CEBRAS galopando," simple (and occasionally silly) English words and phrases are translated into Spanish, accompanied by the familiar Dr. Seussesque full-color cartoon drawings. For each letter there are several pages of illustrated terms, each separated into a box with a word in English, a picture, a sentence in English with the featured word in uppercase letters, and a translation of the sentence in Spanish, similarly highlighted. An easy pronunciation guide follows the A-through-Z dictionary for anyone who wants to go further and learn to speak as well as read Spanish. Believe it or not, our 18 month old son loves this book. As a fluke, I thought that I would check it out of the library so that I could pick up a few Spanish words to teach myself and then him. However, it has become one of his favorite books; he loves the familiar pictures (from other Dr. Seuss/Eastman collaborations) and hearing the words of another language tickles his funny bone..a lot. This book will now be an essential part of our library.

We are having so much fun with this book. We bought it for our 5 year old daughter but the whole family is enjoying it. It keeps the fun in learning another language.

My baby boy loved this so much he kept "reading" it until the covers fell off and the pages fell out (which is no easy feat, since it is well constructed). I bought it for him when he was a year and a half and he got at least three full years of enjoyment out of it. Hands down it has been his favorite book of all time (he just turned five). I wish they had written a French Dictionary too!
