The book, "A Dictionary of Vocal Terminology" by Cornelius Reid, is just that: a dictionary, tailor-made for professional singers or singing-teachers [especially those who may have no formal training in vocal pedagogy]. As a reference volume, it is about as complete a source as I can imagine for a single work. I have used it for years in my own teaching [in solo vocal instruction as well as vocal pedagogy classes at the music institutions where I have taught].

Cornelius Reid is not without his detractors when it comes to his ideas on voice training [see his book on Bel Canto, for instance] but in this volume he manages to remain very objective and holds his personal opinions to an absolute minimum. He has usefully cross-indexed the themes and terminology and this alone is extremely helpful as he guides you from the item you are not familiar with to others which may be just as unfamiliar.

While it is not the only book that a serious singer/teacher needs in his reference library, not having it means the library is not complete and puts such singer/teachers at a distinct disadvantage. I can recommend this book without reservation.
