This is the true story of one person's life (mine) after winning the World's Record Megabucks Slot Jackpot of nearly 12 million dollars in Las Vegas in 1996. It is in story form, but it historically describes life after five years of winning the "Big One." It covers the ups, the downs; the financial woes, the loss of friends, the isolation, the paranoia, etc., of what happens to one's life after instant wealth. Although an entertaining story, it is intended to be a textbook of sorts for those that win (or dream of winning) the big one. It should prepare them for what's ahead for them. It includes an 8 page pictorial of the "good life." It is the author's observation that this story has never been told from the eyes of one who has lived it.

I enjoyed this book very much. I thought John did a very good job in relating his life, including how his decision to "go public" affected his life. His writing style is interesting and easy to read. I especially like the fact that he was very forthright about all his experiences. I skipped the chapter on how to win at gambling, because that is not my thing. I enjoyed the rest of the book, though, because it was so enlightening.

This is a very true retelling of the events that surrounded John and Stella during a very intense period of their lives. I was there when it happened and was with them during many of the events John describes. I bought the book to see how my friend remembered that time frame and much to my surprise, not only is the book very accurate, it reminded me of things I had forgotten.

It doesn't get much more real than this. Great insight into a whirlwind!

I have read this book several times. What I would really like to know is more about the internal conflict had about taking a bigger job for the post office or going to Washington. I believe that it is the mindset he had that allowed him to win this money. I believe that what he delt with after is not as important as how he got where he was when he won. THAT SAID - I enjoyed the book and am VERY HAPPY for John and his wife.
