5.0 out of 5 stars I DID IT: My Life After Megabucks, May 26, 2009

I enjoyed this book very much. I thought John did a very good job in relating his life, including how his decision to "go public" affected his life. His writing style is interesting and easy to read. I especially like the fact that he was very forthright about all his experiences. I skipped the chapter on how to win at gambling, because that is not my thing. I enjoyed the rest of the book, though, because it was so enlightening.

5.0 out of 5 stars I was there..., November 16, 2008
This review is from: I Did It: My Life After Megabucks (Paperback)
This is a very true retelling of the events that surrounded John and Stella during a very intense period of their lives. I was there when it happened and was with them during many of the events John describes. I bought the book to see how my friend remembered that time frame and much to my surprise, not only is the book very accurate, it reminded me of things I had forgotten.

It doesn't get much more real than this. Great insight into a whirlwind!

4.0 out of 5 stars Focus on the positives, July 31, 2007
This review is from: I Did It: My Life After Megabucks (Paperback)
I have read this book several times. What I would really like to know is more about the internal conflict had about taking a bigger job for the post office or going to Washington. I believe that it is the mindset he had that allowed him to win this money. I believe that what he delt with after is not as important as how he got where he was when he won. THAT SAID - I enjoyed the book and am VERY HAPPY for John and his wife.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Sad / Bad Side of Money !, January 7, 2011
I saw this guy on televison one day being interviewed. Apparently I missed the news both newspapers and television when he won so I never even knew this guy lived in Hawaii. Well he made the news alright. When given the option to go public or go anonymous he chose to do what he thought would be best for the hotel he stayed at regularly in Las Vegas (the Hilton.) It really shows what a really nice guy John Tippen is because he didn't bother to think it through when he chose to go public. The nightmare that he was about to endure never even played out in his mind because "who knew?" This book goes from him talking about how he loves to gamble and why (he has what I consider a perfect alibi for gambling) to the moment he won to the next years after he won and how it all affected him and how he made some serious errors. You never know if you will come into a large sum of money yourself so be sure to read this book so you know exactly what to avoid and what to expect. He only took down $11.9 million as the world's largest slot machine winner at the time, but the effects on his life are nothing short of profound. Here is a story of a good guy, a farm boy from Oklahoma who really has a good heart, but made one bad choice which led to many more bad things. It's the sort of story that might having you think twice about sudden riches. What would you do if you suddenly became wealthy ? Could you handle it? Most people say yes, but that's because they have NO CLUE what lies ahead of them, how their friends and family will react, how total strangers will react, how the world views them and what sort of destiny is and will unfold in their lives. Are you ready? Read this book and you will find it an easy read and a fun read too. Thanks JT for telling us your story !
