Book Description

November 11, 2006
Did I Wake You? takes an eclectic mix of genres — haiku, humor, self-help, and anti-self-help — and rolls them into one whimsical, slightly hostile, and strangely inspirational volume. The book grew out of the L.A. live comedy series “Say The Word” in which, at monthly readings, Emmy-winning authors like Cindy Chupack and Alan Zweibel read true stories about their amazing careers. In this rarefied company, Lapides wowed the audience with haiku about brand names and boyfriends, grocery stores and gynecologists.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hai-cool!, August 5, 2007

You know that great feeling when you're looking at birthday cards (or cards for other occasions), and one jumps out at you that captures exactly what you want to say to the person you're giving it to? It's like it was written for you and for that person. It's as if nothing else could more perfectly sum it all up... Well, this book is like having shelves and shelves of really smart, witty, thoughtful and relevant messages right at your fingertips. Pages of insights that sum it all up. As great haikus should, the three line phrases in this book paint vivid mental images - you'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll wonder how the heck the author could say so much so precisely and efficiently. She has a gift. The book is a great gift. You'll want your own copy and a few to share.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than the I Ching, April 5, 2007
This review is from: Did I Wake You?: Haikus for Modern Living (Paperback)
Charming and witty. Open to any page and find words to live by. I've bought three of them because each time a friend looks at it, I have to give it away.
