1.0 out of 5 stars This is awful!! I MEAN IT!!
I can't beleive they would get a record deal!!! They can't sing, they can't dance. They are rude in interviews, the diss any respectable artist they can think of, and they're NERDY! You may say they are just having fun, but this horrendous music is not my idea of 'fun'!! I would rather watch a Sunset Beach omnibous. It is THAT bad!! They will be gone before they know...

5.0 out of 5 stars An evocative and profound statement of longing and pain, July 9, 2001
This review is from: We Didn't Say That (Audio CD)
This title is a creative amalgam of two starkly contrasting elements: one is the sacredness of love; the other, love's embodiment in often horrific everyday experience. Ultimately, the transcendental power of spiritual love emerges as the beautifully rendered theme of this evocative and paradoxical masterwork.

Many listeners mistake "We Didn't Say That" for an existentialist treatise on such issues as the death of God and the isolation of man, though this is hardly the case. "We Didn't Say That" contains a powerful, existential line of questioning, but it is hardly an album about Existentialism-in fact, it is quite the reverse.

As artists, Daphne and Celeste are too brilliant and too subtle to examine such superficial questions as whether or not God exists or human kind is alone in the world. Instead, they examine the human condition not so much in a spiritual vacuum but from the perspective that we cannot know the Divine while we are alive. But in that time, we can experience manifestations of the Divine, some of which take place through our own decisions and actions, but most of which take place during the song "I Love Your Sushi."

This is a remarkable piece of work. It will either awaken a thirst for answers or will it leave you shell-shocked. I was shell-shocked. It seems like a simple allegory - a little fable to make you think, yet its uncompromising, riveting vision has been matched by only a few others in our culture.

5.0 out of 5 stars Daphne and Celeste are brilliant., July 23, 2000

Daphne and Celeste are best known for their catchy, sing-a-long tunes, and that is exactly what you will find on this CD. With Daphne and Celeste, you have to either love them or hate them. And me, I love them. They don't take everything all so seriously, and it's nice to have a laugh here and there. I'm glad I found this CD, because it's just something great to listen to when you need to get in a good mood. Like I said, the songs are extremely catchy, so don't be surprised if you have one of their funny songs stuck in your head all day, or if you find yourself listening to the CD 24/7. I highly recommend this CD, it's the best!

5.0 out of 5 stars Apparently, everyone misses the joke., May 20, 2010

Daphne and Celeste may seem, on the surface, to be a pair of bubbly teenagers eager to extol the joys of being young, dumb, and exuberant. Don't be fooled. This is a pop music slap in the face to... pop music. It begs questions. Like "Who agreed to release this?", and "What the &*$#?". It's more punk than the Sex Pistols could have dreamed of being. Daphne and Celeste use impossibly high voices and nursery school rhyme schemes to sound like the ultimate snotty teenaged brats. It's no accident. All of the joy, bounciness, and optimism that forms the core of pop music is taken out back and shot. Then stabbed. Then replaced with arrogance, insults, xenophobia, elitist posturing, redneck-baiting, and the most hilarious, catchy arrangements possible. Yet it's dark underneath. Every formulaic pop songwriting cliche is driven into the ground, and it's awesome! Anyone who slams them doesn't understand humor in music. NO ONE in pop music is this oblivious to good taste, and the results are dizzying. Like cotton candy spun on straight razors. Honestly, anyone who believes that name-checking Liberace or spotting Tom Cruise at a party for monsters in a pop song is standard fare needs to go back to humor school. This is a brilliantly produced album of great songs that will never leave your head, no matter how much you scratch it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Happy, fun music!, January 1, 2003
This review is from: We Didn't Say That (Audio CD)
I don't quite know what's happened to Daphne & Celeste. They have appeared to have disappeared into thin air. Their last single was a cover of the Alice Cooper classic "School's Out" back in 2001. But since then, they haven't done anything - no performances, no singles or anything. They didn't seem like very nice people, they dissed every pop star they could think of. No wonder people threw stuff at them when they performed.
But this CD is full of fun. The songs are all upbeat except for track 10, "Hey Boy". The girls like to insult each other and other people. The stand out tracks are:

1. Roll Call - Fun song introducing you to Daphne & Celeste. The girls each sing a part. The chorus will stick in your head like glue.
3. I Love Your Sushi - My favourite. It's all about Japan, and it has Japanese sounding music, a Japanese man talking on it and a GREAT chorus.
4 Peek-A-Boo - Cute song about a haunted house with loads of mummies and ghosts in it. I love the beginning and end of the song when D & C are talking.
5. Spy Girl - Cool song. The two girls think they're spies, and the part at the end and in the middle is dead cool.
10. Hey Boy - The only slow track on this album, the girls are fighting over a boy. I love the bridge - "Talk to the hand cuz the face ain't listening!"

Overall, a happy, fun CD with loads of good songs and good laughs on it. D & C are just out to have fun and make happy music. No harm in that, is there?

5.0 out of 5 stars The greatest musical accomplishment of all time, January 6, 2002

"When a true genius appears in the world," Jonathan Swift wrote, "you may know him by this sign, that the dunces are all in confederacy against him." But how else do you recognize genius? If a new Leonardo, a new Melville, a new Ibsen, or Picasso, or Rabelais were to appear in our midst, would we recognize him for what he was, or would we, dunces all, write him off as an eccentric, a fake, a dreamer? Many people have looked at the pop duo Daphne and Celeste in the last two years and wondered, Is it the real thing? For my donuts, the answer is Yes. Yes, dude, yes.

5.0 out of 5 stars I never laughed so hard in my entire life!!!!!!!, March 14, 2004
This review is from: We Didn't Say That (Audio CD)
I love Daphne & Celeste, they're the best!! Their songs are bubbly and fun. The only serious track is "Hey Boy"; the girls are fighting over a boy, the bridge is cool: "talk to the hand cuz the face aint listening, cuz i'm hot girl and you're not girl..." This album has no boundaries; it's almost as if each song is made up on the spot, but obviously thats not true. It takes a lot of time and effort to make an album, and Daphne & Celeste do a pretty good job of it.

I don't know where they've disappeared to. Their last single was a cover by Alice Cooper called "School's Out". Since then, there has been no new songs or anything that has to do with Daphne & Celeste. I read somewhere that their next single will be called "P.A.R.T.Y.", but we will find out if thats true.

Daphne & Celeste, if you're reading this, please show yourselves cuz you are AWESOME and no one can ever be as good as you, and thats a fact!

So the lyrics are stupid. So every single song sounds almost the same. So these girls might not be that talented. But these songs are SO FUN...I mean, the words are bubbly and dumb but the beats and music to go along with it is just great. It's such a fun, care-free CD. Has no depth or message or anything. They're just 2 girls out havin fun making fun music. :-D

This review is from: We Didn't Say That (Audio CD)
Perhaps the most obnoxious bunch of human beings ever to grace a recording; eclipsing such bands as bwitched, hanson and aqua to such a degree that even if you are slightly interested in pop music to any degree, this 'group' of pre-pubsecent teens will make you cringe and perhaps ponder why pop music exists in the first place if people like Daphne and Celeste are able to make a buck off our generation's terrible taste. The perky 'ugly' isn't tongue in cheek, it is a rude obnoxious anthem to people who arn't as beautiful as D and C, although not hard, these girls are obvisously very blind themselves. The other 'beautiful' single: ooh stick you' continues in the very similar teritory. The title says it all really. You have been warned. very.
