4.0 out of 5 stars The Chinese Wall (a.k.a The Language Barrier)
For anyone who has been stumped after buying this Pre-Enigma/Cretu release expecting to hear English lyrics or pure pre-dated Enigma instrumentals should fret no more; There is an English version entitled The Invisible man with the order track list (slightly ?) altered. Afterall, anyone who purchased the German version should have looked carefully at the lettering or...

2.0 out of 5 stars More Enigma please.
I purchased this album hoping to hear more Enigma like music, Although I am a huge fan and will listen to Enigma till I die, I was disappointed when I listen to the album, it was sold in the store under the Enigma name, this is why I bought it. Sorry to say, but this album sounds like Yanni in French, it has small amounts of the magic that Enigma does, but none of the...

4.0 out of 5 stars The Chinese Wall (a.k.a The Language Barrier), October 13, 2000
This review is from: Die Chinesische Mauer (Audio CD)
For anyone who has been stumped after buying this Pre-Enigma/Cretu release expecting to hear English lyrics or pure pre-dated Enigma instrumentals should fret no more; There is an English version entitled The Invisible man with the order track list (slightly ?) altered. Afterall, anyone who purchased the German version should have looked carefully at the lettering or wording of the tracks (that don't look like no English to me).Die Chinesische Mauer from German to English translates to "The Chinese Wall".

Both lyrics and sound are very mid-80's synthesized, almost soundtrack savvy, European pop music. NO ! There are no Gregorian chants or whispery, seductive female vocals. It's Michael Cretu singing in his raw limited vocal ability. The keyboard arrangements are sometimes ethereal and almost Vangelis-like. Regardless if this album is sung in English or German, ultimately the music can be universal and subjective to different listeners. Don't deny yourself listening to this version in German; It's the music that counts w/o any language barriers...

5.0 out of 5 stars Proto-Enigma, April 9, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Die Chinesische Mauer (Audio CD)
All right, first off, this is NOT Enigma. But, it definitely has that Enigma feel to it. By that I mean you can tell that in a few short years it would lead to MCMXC A.D. It almost feels like Michael Cretu was experimenting and would soon create one of the most distinctive sounds in music. Yes, it does sort of have that "Vangelis from Blade Runner" sound, but it is all right. It is still good music to relax to. Pick this up. Love it, listen to it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pre-Enigma..., November 3, 2001

I found this disc at a substantial discount and knowing his work from Enigma, I knew it would be a safe bet. Since mine is a German import, all the tracks with vocals are sung in German! No matter, even in German it sounds great. It is pure Enigma all over the disc with very rhymic passages. Well-recorded and performed the only complaint and the reason it didn't rate another star is the ridiculously short playing time of 35.17. For an early peek into the mind of Enigma's brainchild and if you are a fan, you'll want this disc.

Sorry to say, but this album sounds like Yanni in French, it has small amounts of the magic that Enigma does, but none of the raw powerful, soulful, meaningful sounds that the three Enigma CD's have. Please make the monks chant again............ More Enigma.
